    Mash Temperature Issue

So I'm doing my first AG: 10# 2 row 2# chocolate malt 0.5# crystal 120 0.5# carapils 1# lactose My strike water was about 170 which is what beersmith told me to do. But then after adding my grains it was only about 148, so I added about a gallon of boiling water, which brought it to...

First Time Kegging - Force Carb or Priming Sugar?

So I got a corny kegging setup for Christmas and I've read 2 different way to carb. 1) 20-25 psi and shake the hell out of it and let it go. No priming sugar. 2) 1/3 cup of sugar with 5 psi for a week. Anyone got any preferences or advice on which I should do?

    Is my beer ruined?

So my first batch has turned out looking great and tasting awesome, but there seems to be something wrong with it. After drinking around 4 or 5 in a row I start to feel slightly disoriented and warm inside. A few more beers and I start talking to beautiful women who I would normally never...

First batch is coming out great!

I put my bottled-for-2-weeks test beer in my fridge last night to try today, and when I got home from work a friend had opened it up and started to drink it thinking it was Corona since I'm reusing Corona bottles. He almost finished the beer before he realized it didn't taste like Corona at all...

    Hard Lemonade

I'm not sure if the Cider forum is the proper place for this post, but I'll try it anyways. My wife likes some beers, but really enjoys hard lemonades so I was just gonna see if anyone had any recipes or tips for making hard lemonade?

    Fermentor Air Leak?

While my first beer ever was still in the primary I went and purchased another plastic fermentor so I could have 2 batches going at the same time. I cooked up a Brewfest Grand Cru and put it in the new primary about 60 hours ago. The airlock showed no signs of fermentation so I took a reading...

    Hydrometer Usage

I've seen a lot of people on the forums advocating the use of hydrometers so I went to my brew shop to purchase one and the owner told me he doesn't use one and doesn't think its really needed. He's been brewing for over 20 years, and he is the owner so I figure he knows his stuff. I bought...

    Fermentation Question

I'll start by saying I'm sorry for posting this thread knowing there are many more just like it, but with slight differences. I'm brewing a wheat beer using a kit and malt extract. Fermentation seemed very active and 2 days later I came home to find it had bubbled up through the airlock...
