I really wish subscription settings were turned off when a thread is moved here.

    Keg fitting lifespan question

I meant the poppets. I tried to use some keg lube on them, but that didn't bring them back to life. It kept leaking the same as before. The lid and its o-ring hasn't been an issue in any of this. I called my local homebrew store to ask them if they knew aything to do in order to stop the...

    Keg fitting lifespan question

It does look like it's the poppets I'm talking about. I wasn't sure what they were called. I've still got the originals. I guess I'll lube them up and see if I can get them to stop leaking. Thanks.

    Keg fitting lifespan question

Hey guys, I bought a kit to convert a mini fridge to a kegerator from a company that seems to be highly regarded on this forum. I had some problems with my equipment that I wanted to run by you guys. First off, three of my four keg fittings (two corny kegs) leaked. I tested this by...

    Infection?

He says that if you look at it from the side, the layer is about a quarter inch thick. I had him gently knock on the side to disturb it a bit and he said it now looks like a big layer of thick powder floating on top. I'm wondering if it's just yeast, but he says it only started this in the...

    Infection?

I inspired my friend to try homebrewing, and this is his first batch. I've never seen anything like it so I assume it's an infection. If anyone knows what it is specifically, I'd love to hear it. Picture taken while looking down the neck of the carboy:

    Belgian Caramel Pils Substitution?

Hey guys, I'm brewing an all-grain batch that calls for Belgian Caramel Pils. At 1lb 16oz, it's about 15% of the total grains in a 5 gallon batch. I can't find Belgian Caramel Pils anywhere. Is there anything I can substitute that might be easier to find? Sure I could order online, but...

Where to find 5/8 o-ring and fender washers

You may run into a situation where Fastenal's physical store doesn't have the fender washer even though the website says they do. I ran into the same thing today. If so, go with a 5/8th SS flat washer instead. The local Fastenal here had a 5/8th non-SS fender washer but it didn't even stock a...

    Stuck fermentation?

No unfermentables. Ingredients were 55/45 wheat DME, crystal malt, chocolate malt, melanoidin, and light munich malt. Ratio of DME to everything else was about 9:1. I used a weihenstephan smack pack (big one, not small one) the first time then some dry yeast after it had been stuck for a week.

    Stuck fermentation?

I used a starter which had a couple days to work its magic. It looked pretty healthy when I added it. I've tried bubbling in some oxygen and finally resorted to adding more yeast, and nothing is waking this beer up. The only other thing I can think of is maybe something's wrong with the...

    Stuck fermentation?

So forgetting for a moment about what caused it, is there anything I can do to make it start again? I tried stirring up the yeast, as per previous suggestion. I'll give it awhile to see if that helps, though I'm apprehensive since it was already pretty well stirred when I transferred between...

    Stuck fermentation?

    Nah, it was Munton's.

    Stuck fermentation?

It was mostly dry malt extract, but there were some specialty grains as well. Only around a pound though. I figure the specialty grains are probably why I ended up at 1.055 instead of 1.060.

    Stuck fermentation?

The 1.055 was actual. I believe 1.060 was projected. I've taken a couple different hydro readings over the past couple days and they've both been 1.030. Actually 1.031, but I'll just call it 1.030 for simplicity. I've also got another batch going and it's very close to its target, so I don't...

    Stuck fermentation?

Wow, I originally had that in there but apparently removed it when I was doing some rewording. The original was 1.055 and the target should be 1.015. I edited the original message to reinclude that.

    Stuck fermentation?

I created a starter for my beer and fermentation began in a few hours. It fermented extremely strongly, much more strongly than any of my previous beers. At one point it even went up into the airlock, thus clogging it up. The pressure built up and blew the rubber stopper and airlock off. I...

    Dead yeast?

Hey guys, I just made my first batch ever last night. I used a True Brew Brown Ale kit, but eventually when I feel much more comfortable I'd like to move beyond the kits. I followed the instructions exactly. Once I poured the wort into my primary, it said to wait until the temperature is...

Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

I'll give it a couple days to see what happens. There are many ideas in this thread that I've read about in the other threads but the kit I bought didn't mention at all. I figured they were more for other brewing styles and if I needed them then the instructions would have told me to do so...

Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

Thanks for the responses guys. I saw a couple other posts regarding fermenting time, including the one linked above. One of the posts had the same question as me, but he had waited 3 or 4 days and was told it was most likely ruined. I was just hoping to be proactive and avoid such a scenario.
