    What are you reading?

I got sidetracked and started The Giver by Lois Lowery last night. I'm halfway through it and it is really compelling.

    What are you reading?

I picked up A Moveable Feast By Hemmingway while I was brewing this weekend. Once I finish that I'm going to start A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. Yeah, they're for kids but I've heard that they are a fun read.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

I went to a restaurant recently and ordered a Guinness. The waitress said, " Oh we're all out, the closest thing I have is a yuengling." yeah those are close.

    What are you reading?

I just finished Joshua Bernstein's book Brewed Awakening. It's a quick read about different ingredients, brewers and styles. I liked it as a general overview about beer. I especially like the flavor profiles of the different malts and hops. Next I'm going to read The Twelve by Justin Cronin...

    First Barleywine Question

Alright then, I won't repitch. I'm probably going to add the sugar tomorrow morning. I brewed this past Saturday and it seems to have slowed down a bit. I removed the blow-off tube and affixed an airlock that is bubbling along pretty fast, but the hard churning in the carboy has mostly stopped...

    First Barleywine Question

I didn't mention this in the first post: it is a 2.5 gallon batch that I pitched one packet into.

    First Barleywine Question

So my first barleywine is in primary chugging away happily. I used S-05 yeast. Part of the recipe is adding sugar after a few days directly into the primary. I'm pretty confident in doing that and using that technique. I am wondering if S-05 can get down to the predicted final gravity of 1.026...

    What are you reading?

I enjoyed Good Omens, too. It was a couple of years back, so I don't remember a whole lot but I remember liking it.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I brewed an extract barleywine this morning and I'm going to brew a Citra IPA on monday. I work in a restaurant and don't work mondays so I consider that part of the weekend.

    drinking songs

The Parting Glass at the end of the night. When I was in Germany they sang drinking songs from the middle ages. I guess we have "Sweet Caroline" in this country.

    What are you reading?

Good luck with Game of Thrones. My friends really like the series and I'm no stranger with the fantasy genre, but nothing good happens to anyone! I've been meaning to give it another go, though.

    American IPA Citra Bomb IPA

I really like Citra. I don't know why people would dislike it. If you talking about too much bittering I just made a Barleywine today that used Warrior with 19.7% AA. That is huge in my opinion. It's really citrusy and resinous and that's what I like in my beer.I'm planning an IPA that uses...

Best homebrew shop in Rochester NY

I like sunset on clay because they sell grains in bulk so I can get exactly what I need. I usually get yeast from Beers of the World and both for equipment needs.
