Deep Freezer for maintaining fermentation temps

That works if you want to limit yourself to a single stage (cooling only) if you want to control heat as well, that Johnson controller will not work. So unless the Ferm Chamber will always be in a spot which has an ambient temp several deg or more above your Ferm chamber set point...

    Another Fermentation chamber build

There are many ways to do this... from hard wiring the freezer power cord into the controller to wiring the STC1000 controller to a standard duplex 120v receptacle and then plugging the freezer into it, just like you would the wall.

Deep Freezer for maintaining fermentation temps

The STC1000 is a controller only, it has dual stage capability, so yes it can control a receptacle plug or hard wired heater and the freezer

    Cold crashing in glass secondary.

This...^^^ I change out my three piece air locks after fermentation and use a S-Airlock before cold crashing. Or a long blow off tube... Mine is about 2.5 feet long, and it has sucked back starsan from the jar during cold crash, but never enough to empty the jar(then sucking air), or have the...

Spent Grain? Make Your Best Friend Cookies!

Every brew day, while waiting on the boil I make a batch of cookies for the pups .. Full size cookie sheet I get 117 cookies (these are not food, but treats, so I make um small about 3/4 x 1") That takes 4 cups of spent grain. Then I bag up 8 more cups in two bags (4 cups each) and freeze...

    Temp controller ?

So at least you are now seem to understand why the STC-1000 is often referred to as an "aquarium controller" you seemed very confused on that point earlier. And of course noted many find it works as marketed..... a Temp controller with the probe in liquid, sensing temperature and controlling...

    Temp controller ?

Well it could be because that is what they are marketed as I guess..... Other than the marketing,, there is the observation that they work great in an Aquarium (feel free to google the Aquarium forums to read the same posts I did) And then there is the anecdotal observations in many...

How to use Gelatin or other clarifying agent?

Some here will tell you gelatin fining agent will remove some of the Hop of the IPA.. Others will say it does not.. Read the replies, make a choice. To use Gel, boil just over a pint of water to sanitize, let cool, add 1 tablespoon to 1 pint of cool water and gently heat until dissolved.. DO...

    Recommendations for Ferm chamber please!

14cuft or larger freezer. Plug and play for temp controller would be a Johnson Controls Digital Thermostat Control Unit.. but it's only does one side (cooling) if you want to control heat with your temp controller.. your going to need something else... the common choice is an STC 1000 control...

    Should I rehydrate yeast?

THIS ^^^ Pitching dry yeast on top of wort that is at the correct temp, for a beer that is not big, works every time.. It will make beer... Does it stress the yeast? Perhaps, but I think it stresses the Home Brew Snobs out more :D Pitching dry removes a step or three, making for a better...
