Ok so me and a friend are going head to head with a Barleywine challenge. We are going to each brew a batch in July, and let it sit for 1 year. We will then have our LHBS guy judge the brews. I'm looking for your best EXTRACT Barleywine recipes. I will take all into account and come up with what...

Cream ale, American wheat or weizenbier?

Funny you should ask. I have a Creme Ale carbing in the bottle right now. I brewed a Northern Brewer Creme Ale last year and loved it so much I had to clone it with a slight modification. This time around I bought the comparative ingredients from another supplier and brewed but with an...

    Caribou slobber

I realize this thread is over a year old, but I am drinking a Caribou Slobber as I write this, as I am brewing a chocolate stout. The Caribou is a nice winter beer. I don't know how, but my OG hit 1.070. It ended up being a 7% beer. It turned out great! This one is a do over for me as well as...

To Be or not to Be Yeast Starter

So when I first started brewing, everything I read and heard said doing a starter is the best way to go. All of my batches have began with a yeast starter on a DIY stir plate . Is there an advantage to doing a starter over direct pitching or what? What say you brewing gods?

Newbie here with a question about fermentation length

Generally, a kit extract beer will ferment for about 2 weeks. At the end take a gravity reading. If it is down low you are ready to bottle. Give it another 2 weeks in the bottle before chilling and cracking one open! Cheers, don't worry it all come out fine. Welcome to our crazy world!

Beginner Beer Snob Wanting To Make Some Beginner Beer!

MorebeerCom has almost everything you need. I would first check Craigslist in your area for someone selling their setup for whatever reason. You can usually get things Cheaper there. There are many online supply sites that offer a ton of stuff. Morebeer's raspberry ale kit in my opinion is...

What company makes the best Imperial Stout Extract Kit?

So my first batch was a bastardized version of a couple of different recipes. It turned out ok, a little to hoppy for me, but not bad for a first attempt. My subsequent batches have been kits. Morebeer.com and Northernbrewer.com have really good kits that have been tried and true. Try Em out...
