    dry hopping in keg

well...i did something pretty stupid. i dry hopped (pellet hops) my beer in the keg per the recipe. i did not have a herb ball or any hop bags, so i fashioned a stainless steel hop "vesicle" from a spare 1/2" OD faucet line i had. the recipe called for a 1 oz dry hop...thinking the 1/2" OD ss...

    Refractometer vs. Hydrometer Video

probably not a big deal, but i believe the primary intention with this experiment is to calibrate your new refractometer response to your hydrometer (calibration errors with your hydrometer, calibration errors with refractometer, systematic error in the manner in which you interpret hydrometer...

Brew Hut Raising Weekend - 4/25

Absolutely outstanding work Ed! The notch around the tree is well done. Do you need to do anything to make sure there's not too much water collecting around the foundation at that point, or is it not worth worrying about?

Brewing with orange peel and coriander

Thanks Soulive...I went ahead and strained them out prior to transferring to the primary, but it was just a coin-flip decision. Glad to know I didn't screw anything up. -ssb

Brewing with orange peel and coriander

Newb question alert!! I brewed a batch last night which called for orange peel (bitter and sweet) and coriander seed. I threw all three ingredients into the last 10 minutes of the boil per the instructions. What I wasn't sure of was whether or not to strain out the "stuff" prior to...

    Air Bubbles in Beer Line?

Quick update... I increased the pressure to 12-15 psi and increased my 3/16 tubing length to about 10 feet. Result: no degassing in beer lines and better foam control coming out of the tap. Thanks for the advice! Physics...it works every time! :mug: -ssb

    Air Bubbles in Beer Line?

this is my setup just for visual. the beer lines in the picture aren't actually hooked up. the majority of the time i have the tap handles hooked on top of the keg.

    Air Bubbles in Beer Line?

the lines are cooled to the extent they are inside the fridge with the keg...no additional cooling. i also try to hang the tap on the top of the keg...some of the line sits on top, but the majority is hanging alongside the keg.

    Air Bubbles in Beer Line?

I had the keg at 22-25 psi for a couple weeks (it's Apfelwein...i like it highly carb'd), then backed it down to 5 psi to serve (i'm using picnic taps). the Apfelwein does foam quite a bit when it comes out. is 5 psi too low? i tried 10-12 psi but it comes gusing out. i'm using about 5-6...

    Air Bubbles in Beer Line?

Thanks Bobby. So it sounds normal. I've got the kegs in a refigerator where I have to constantly open/close the door to get to the beer. From what you said, I'm guessing the lines are warming up. When I go to a "tap on the outside" setup, I presume this should be less of a problem?

    Air Bubbles in Beer Line?

I'm kegging for the first time, and am having the normal "too much head, not enough carbonation in solution" battles which everyone seems to go through the first couple times. The numerous threads on this topic have been very helpful. One question i did have is: should I expect to have...
