Surly Darkness Style RIS Recipe, Looking for Feedback

Oh and the 1g versions also came out great. The bourbon/oak/coffee one was very good, but so was the base beer.

Surly Darkness Style RIS Recipe, Looking for Feedback

Turned out pretty well. Very similar flavor profile but can't really call it a clone. It finished around 1.018 which is lower than I wanted and way too low for a clone. I think the real thing is around 1.040-1.045. Needless to say, it was a little hot and the flavors didn't come together until a...

    The 2016 NHC - Results/Speculation Thread

Thanks guys. The whole process doesn't seem to be explained very clearly for a noob like myself. Still don't really understand the mini-bos and if it has any say in the final 3. Seems like a couple of well written sentences within the results sheets and on winners page could save everyone a lot...

    2016 NCAA Tournament Pool

@drcaleb Apologize that I still haven't shipped! We had our first child right before the final 4. Been a little hectic over here and beer has taken a back seat to this adorable little terror. I'll make it up to you with a porch bomb sometime soon

    The 2016 NHC - Results/Speculation Thread

How does everyone know if they made it to the final round or not? Received the score sheets but no mentions of it anywhere. Scored a 41. First comp I've ever entered so I'm pleased with the score and that the judges didn't think it was a turd.

    2016 NCAA Tournament Pool

Sounds good. I like Elevated a lot too. Also like Falls. If you haven't been to South Lyndale I highly recommend checking it out. Probably a larger beer selection than Elevated, plus they get a lot of rare spirits and great wines... although a little further out from you.

    2016 NCAA Tournament Pool

Good call. I'm a big fan of Steel Toe and Town Hall (of course Surly & Indeed too). Haven't tried much Insight or East Lake yet. Just realized you're in South Mpls. I'm by 48th & Chicago. Do you shop at South Lyndale liquors?

    2016 NCAA Tournament Pool

@drcaleb what would be your first and second choice for styles? So many good breweries sold here in Minneapolis, want to send you the best of each style.

    2016 NCAA Tournament Pool

Just checked and doing well so far! Guessing that will change real soon. Originally had Syracuse beating MSU similar to my other brackets, but changed it 10 minutes before games started... and put MSU in the final four. Good move. Also thought Purdue and Kentucky would do well.

New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red Clone #1

The base beer is lambic-style aged up to a year in their wood foeders, so a true clone attempt would contain brett and bacteria. Strip away all the cherry sweetness and it would be a little sour, and it does have some tart-ness out of the bottle. I agree though, backsweetning with a high quality...

    Toppling Goliath... worth the trip?

Oh and to stay on topic the taproom is totally worth it along with getting ahold of most things brewed in Iowa. Pompeii and Zeelander have both been incredible lately.

    Toppling Goliath... worth the trip?

Aren't all 22oz from Decorah and all 12oz from Florida? I'm not aware of any bombers from brew hub and vice versa, but I could be wrong.

New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red Clone #1

Would love to hear some tasting notes and side by side pics. I never got around to attempting a clone but thinking of trying a quick version with lactic acid and backsweetning with montmercy juice in the keg. Had very good luck with this method with a couple fruited goses.

Help! OG reading waaay too high

Did you do a full boil or partial boil? If partial boil the top off water probably wasn't mixed well enough for an accurate reading. No worries. What yeast? Most should be fine with that og as long as you increase the temp towards the end of active fermentation.
