    Frankenbrew Style question

A local brewery went out of business recently and I bought some grains at the auction. (It was online so I purchased them without knowing the type). Anyway, I'm putting them to use today with a recipe I made up with what I have and wanted to know if this would fall into any particular style of...

Making a starter on brew day?

I usually make my starters the day before I brew with yeast I've washed from previous batches. However, sometimes I forget, so I make the starter in the morning before I start brewing on brew day which means it sits for 4-5 hours before I pitch. Is this a waste of time or is it still helpful...

    Adding coffee to homebrew

If you dry hop with beans, Any idea how many beans for a 5 gallon batch? I might add some to a Milk Stout.

    Wilserbrewer Brew bags

Just wanted to share with everyone here that I bought a couple brew bags from Wilserbrewer from here on the forums and did my first brew this past weekend. I am extremely happy with my purchase! The bags are very well built and seem to have this texture which keeps the grains from sticking to...

    Sweet Stout Milk Stout

Well, my FG came out to 1.020 but I'm going to keg it anyway. Should be ready in time for the Superbowl which was my goal. I'll let you know how it came out.

    Sweet Stout Milk Stout

Thanks. I was brewing it the day I asked the question, so I mashed at 154 and put the lactose in at 30 minutes. I'll keg it next weekend, since that will be 3 weeks in the fermentor. Looking forward to it!

What was the mash time & temperature? Also, when did you put the lactose in the boil? Thanks.

    Heat source for fermentation chamber

I just use a incandescent light bulb and it works great. Of course, mine is an upright freezer so I have it clamped in one of the racks in the door.

Won't use Munton's carbonating tabs again

Yes, I've been brewing long enough to know the difference. Especially when the chunks are about 1/4" in diameter before they go through the strainer. They were the non-dissolved Munton's tabs. I'm just happy the beer is good. A little under carbonated, but still good.

Won't use Munton's carbonating tabs again

Well, I finally got to pour my first beer from this batch and the large chunks seem to fall apart as you pour, but still leave small little bits floating around in the beer. The beer turned out good, but I just can't bring myself to drink that last bit in the bottom with all the white flecks...

Won't use Munton's carbonating tabs again

Yeah, I've been swirling. I'm gonna stick them in my warm garage and see if the yeast can munch on them more. My first and last time using them.

Won't use Munton's carbonating tabs again

That's what I had planned on until I found these in the fridge and I thought they'd be a better alternative. Boy, was I wrong!

Won't use Munton's carbonating tabs again

I normally keg my beer, but will still bottle every once in awhile. I bottled a batch on Father's Day only to realize I had no priming sugar. Went to LHBS only to find it closed for Father's Day. Came back home and realized I had a bag of Munton's carbonating tabs in my fridge. I...

    Blue Moon Clone

Wow....I can't believe this thread has been going for 7 years! I brewed a batch this weekend based on the original recipe in this thread. (I couldn't read through 100 pages) It is fermenting now, but smelled wonderful before I put the lid on the fermenting bucket. I tried brewing another Blue...

Craft The Perfect Draft - The 420 Special Wheat

@Jcruse My thoughts exactly! Which leads me to my next question......has anyone actually tried making a cannabis beer?

    High electric bill??

My fermentation chamber (upright freezer) and beer fridge in the garage are both older models, so I suspect they are the main culprits. Even though my HVAC is about 20 years old, I don't think that would make my bill 61% more than my neighbors because I'm sure theirs are probably the same. I did...

    High electric bill??

Ok, I have 7 fridges or freezers and we get a monthly audit from our electric company that tells us how we compare to our neighbors usage and we are consistently about 61% higher usage than our neighbors. I also have a bar and we do leave about 4 neon lights on all the time, but it was my...

    Keg Carbonating with fluctuating temperatures

I have a keg-orator with dual taps and 4 corny kegs. So I try to keep my spare kegs full and ready to go. I just got an extra co2 tank so I can carbonate my spare kegs while they're waiting too be used. The only place I can keep them is in my garage which during the day may be in the 50's to...

    Over primed bottles

If they are not cooled they will continue to carbonate and bottle bombs are very real possibility. I over carbed a batch and got bottle bombs (not fun) and after cooling them tried the burping method many times over until I finally gave up and dumped the batch. Best of luck to you...

Oops..left washed yeast at 69 degrees.

Just an update....... I made a starter with the London ESB Yeast and it took off like a rocket. So I guess I answered my own question. Thanks everyone for the feedback!
