I've attempted to respond twice now with the app crashing both times. Here goes try three! Since my initial post the president has personally apologized, acknowledged the programs problems and road mapped the planned fixes. The CSR, whom I've worked with extensively has also apologized. As to...

    First time Brewer... Temperature question

Since you are doing a mr beer kit you won't use a blow off tube and if you are using the yeast from under the cap the range is 68-76 so again 68 will probably be fine but like I said I tend to like to keep my ambient in the low 60s. Also be careful with the mr beer fermenter in a tub of water...

Starting water amount for extract brew

Not sure I fully understand your question but always go with a full boil if you can. It will prevent over caramelization of the extract and it will give you a better use of your hops (you won't be diluting the hops with top up water). For example this coming week I'm brewing an APA and my boil...

    First time Brewer... Temperature question

68 will be fine. Keep in mind fermentation is exothermic so the internal wort temp will be 6-8 degrees higher than ambient. Temp depends on which yeast you use but I try and keep most of my ale fermentations in a room with temps in the low 60s.

Starting water amount for extract brew

I always choose my boil volume based on my target fermenter volume. Granted I do AG now but when I did extract I figured my boil volume the same way (taking into account the volume of LME added). I will say boil volume affects sg because you will have more or less wort when the boil is over. I...

    What should I buy next?

Since you are getting close to brewing your first batch I'd go with the yeast starter equipment. You can buy a good yeast starter set with a 2L flask, stopper, dme and nutrient from most homebrew stores. Then you can DIY a stir plate with a computer fan and some rare earth magnets (there is a...

    Thinner Mash?

I personally always adjust my ratio to get an equal (or close to equal) mash and sparge amount. I think Palmer and some others recommend trying to get those equal for a better extraction. I could be wrong though since I'm still newish to AG brewing.
