Munich Helles 2011 1st Place HBT- Light lager- Augustiner Lagerbier Hell

Tried this beer...it was very good...a bunch of people really liked it...my dad is even talking about setting up a kegging system, so I can make this for him to have at his house. He normally doesn't care for homebrew much. Thanks

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Slim - finally tried this beer last night after much excitement and anticipation. My wife and I love it. Glad I already have the supplies on hand to make another 10 gallons. Thanks for the recipe.

    Fermentation temperature

I normally set mine about 8-10 deg lower for the first couple days, because that is when the yeast is creating the most heat, then bump it up to the rec temp

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Jalapeno Cream Ale

Tapped this keg the other day. I really had no idea what to expect. I've never had any type of pepper beer. I really like it, something different. If you make it you must like the taste of roasted jalapeños. Mine doesn't have any heat when you drink it, but def. has the flavor. I guess the...

Who's planning a pumpkin brew this fall?

I've brewed their recipe a couple years in a row now and everyone seems to like it. I've brewed it with real pumpkin and without. I was not able to tell a while lot of difference. Both were good.

    Temperature Question

I agree completely. There is a lot of internal heat created those first few days of fermentation, which is the big deal to control. It can be 10 degrees warmer internally then the room temp/chest freezer is. After only 7 days I would never move it from your primary fermenter to a secondary...

Munich Helles 2011 1st Place HBT- Light lager- Augustiner Lagerbier Hell

Made this today. This is my first lager. Everything went well hit a 1.057 for my OG. My wife loved the taste of the wort. It looks real promising. Biggest problem I had was getting my pitch temp down. The ground water temp is so high right now. I need to break out my old wort chiller and use...

Question On 15 Gallon Conical Fermenter

Plastic - way cheaper then the blichman. It probably would work, I'm sure not made as well and you would have to be a little more careful with it. Blichman - I do not own a blichman conical, but own other products of theirs and I'm sure there's is much sturdier and thought out. I know it has...

    Keg Aging

I haven't. The one I got with my starter kit had a slow leak out of the valve, so I could never put anything in it. As long as the valve and bulkhead don't leak it should work. Just make sure you get the valve and bulkhead cleaned and sterilized good. After all most bottling buckets are the same...

    Keg Aging

One week could be pretty quick to move. If it is a really low gravity beer then maybe. I normally leave it it the primary for a min of 3 weeks. If I were you I would buy another plastic fermenter. They are cheap and it's not worth it to me to risk moving the beer too early. Gravity readings are...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Before you bottle it do you always wait for all the fruit to fall? I forgot about mine in a cabinet and just checked it and the majority of the fruit is still floating and I made it 4 months ago. Do I need to keep waiting?

    BIAB Setup/upgrade

A 20 gallon pot for a 5 gallon batch could be done, but I don't think with theblichman the thermometer would be covered with water and be able to be used. I have a 9 gallon pot I normally use for 5 gallon batches, but it can sometimes be a little tight. Splitting batches is a good idea, but...

    BIAB Setup/upgrade

I would def get the 20 gallon. I had been using a 15 gallon keg and it was constantly over flowing when I added the grains or I would run a little short on final volumes when doing 10 gallon batches. I just received the 20 gallon boilmaker, haven't used it yet, but I'm sure it's going to be way...

    Adding honey?

Yes add it to the wort. It normally seems to dry the beer out a little and add a few points to the ABV. I've never tried adding it to a secondary.

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

15 gallons already drank of this recipe, 5 still in a keg and have gallons 21-30 currently boiling away in the brew kettle. Everyone just loves this beer!!

How to keep fermenting beer cool?

Get a big cooler from Walmart that your fermenter will fit in. Place your fermenter in the cooler with water and ice...add more ice as necessary to maintain the temp you want.

    How Hot Have You Gone?

+1 on the cayenne pepper...that's my favorite thing about using it in cooking is the back heat. Never used it in beer before, but might be worth a shot if your looking for a little more something when you get to your finished product.

Advice on pricing my Keezer build

I guess it depends on your setup. My kegerator is in a closet with taps going thru a wall into my bar area. My co2 tank sits outside of the kegerator and I ran a gas line inside the kegerator, so I still have 4 kegs on tap.
