^ thanks for the info, never thought about that. Same as making your own vanilla extract.

    obtaining smoked hickory flavor

Wishing I would have done my homework before hand. From the hydrometer sample I just tasted I can say that 2lbs. of weyermann smoked malt adds zero smoke character to a five gallon batch. Fine excuse to try again soon, i've been itching to fire up my smoker anyway.

How to make a yeast starter - Pictorial

Going cross eyed trying to find the answers to all my starter/washing questions! Found a bunch, maybe a little help with the last couple? Is it nessisary to chill and decant when stepping up from 1 to 2 liters or can I just throw some fresh wort into the container and let er buck...

    Saison Cottage House Saison

My og was 1.069 and it finished just a hair over the 1.002, don't have the nice hydrometer that reads between the thousands (so maybe 1.0025). Wasn't my intent to stray from the recipe, just the way it went down. The first 1.002 reading was taken at 14 days.

    Saison Cottage House Saison

Mine's done ! Fermented at 74 the whole four weeks and subbed some northern brewer I had for the sorachi. Beautiful across the board, color, taste, mouthfeel, smell, everything. This is the best beer I've produced in my short brewing history so far and I couldnt be happier. Thanks for the recipe !

Just named my brewery (if I ever get one) "brewed in the nude." first on tap "bare assed barleywine" and "bal*s out stout"

    Saison Cottage House Saison

Brewing this as we speak! My sixth batch ever (second all grain). Got 75% efficiency, pretty happy about that. Lot of firsts for me on this one, hope it lives up to your standards! Thanks for the recipe.

    It's a sad day....

My girlfriend made dog treats out my spent grain! And she drinks half the beer. Guess that means she's on board, time will tell though, my equipment doesnt take up half the house....yet

    It's a sad day....

You guys are inspirational. Would be awesome to have that kind of beer laid up. I'm doing two in a week for the first time, oatmeal milk stout last weekend and Belgian farmhouse tomorrow. I do have one more keg, think I've been convinced to fill that one up sooner than later.

    How did you find us?

Yep, google. Was in over my head when I decided to go all grain on my fourth batch, been a big help, thanks!

My experience level is pretty low, seemed like a huge change for a little sugar. Got a lot of learning to do, thanks guys!

first all grain, way over recipe sg

First off thanks, without the info i got from this place I'd have a lot more issues with my first all grain batch than I do. Two questions (I did use the search engine but no luck) First I brewed the midwest oatmeal stout which has an sg of 1.046. My wort is 1.070. I threw the priming sugar...
