What beer/homebrew blogs/magazines do you read?

I listen to podcasts only. Experimental brewing, come and brew it, brulosophy, and beer smith

I Need a 'Blue' Beer please

Freezing does not kill pathogens it only slows their growth or makes them dormant. When they get back to a favorable temp then they will start right back up. I heard that people were trying to be eco friendly by freezing their clothes instead of washing and that is a faulty argument for the same...

    Louisiana Lemonade

I like jtothea's idea of adding different flavors. I plan to make a 5 gallon batch and then prime with different flavors for each gallon. A lot of people on the skeeter pee forum suggest skipping the slurry and just pitching 2 packets of ec-1118 since it is only about a dollar a pack. As far...

    Louisiana Lemonade

I am planning on doing skeeter pee soon and someone on that forum suggested making a yeast starter with white grape juice. You start the yeast and prepare the lemonade and 48 hours later the chemicals from the lemon juice evaporate an the yeast are healthy enough to overcome a highly acidic new...

any way to counteract overbearing spice addition?

You could make another cider with no spices and then blend the two to dilute the spices

What should I do with a 13+% cyser thats too sweet...?

Why not try adding a couple of gallons of juice to your cyser and letting it ferment. Probably have to pitch new yeast since the abv was so high. You could also make another batch without adding anything and when it's done fermenting mix the two together. You wouldn't even need I backsweeten or...

    1 st time cider

You may have set the pectin when you pastuerized in the beginning. It may stay cloudy, which tastes fine, or you could try adding something to clear it up. I don't mind mine cloudy because they taste great and I get to drink them sooner. I agree with you that the carbonation makes them taste...

    Saison dupont clone?

Brewed this recipe from the clone brews book. It was very expensive as an all extract brew. The og was very high though: 1.062. Should I raise the temp in my fermenter for this saison?

I messed up, can it be fixed?

I've read the forum on skeeter pee (hard lemonade) in the wine forum. A lot of people have problems with sulfur smell due to stressed yeast. This could have been due to the vitamin c added to your concentrate which is an acid. Between that and your campdens you may have shocked them, causing...

    Saison dupont clone?

I am interested in brewing a saison for my next batch and someone said that the saison DuPont was his favorite. Anyone have any idea how to make it? If you have a partial mash recipe that would be great because I haven't stepped up to all grain yet.

Brewing my first Saison - tips please?

Is that recipe from beer smith? Is that a free program? I have only done kits so far but would like to try partial mashes without kits.

    5 Day Redneck Cider

I just watched a documentary on Netflix called plastic planet. It said not to use plastic with the recycling number 1 more than once because of the chemicals it leaches. BPA is the one most people have heard of and it mimics estrogen causing females to have changed eggs and males to develop man...

    Skeeter Pee

I finally read all 1200 posts and I want to start a batch of this in a few weeks. I have only made cider and beer before so I am opting to make a starter. I have seen white grape juice suggested but could I use apple juice as well? I also like the idea of making a 5 gallon batch and flavoring...

    Cider

If you like sweet cider you should look at the caramel apple cider by upstate mike. He modified it on pg 42 a little. I would use an ale yeast for your first batches. Champagne yeast can add too much abv and require aging your cider. Also if you like carbonated and sweet like my wife and I, you...

    Caramel Apple Hard Cider

Why does the syrup need to be made a day ahead of time?

keg min fridge or chest freezer ??

Be careful when taking apart that mini fridge. My roommate and I tried that in college and ended up cutting a coolant line, ruining the fridge. It is pretty hard to remove.

    Sweet apple raspberry

I made a batch using apple-raspberry concentrate. You could do what is suggested above and add the concentrate to sweeten and add rasp flavor. You could also buy raspberry extract and sweeten with sugar.

    Cider brewed 2 week ago

Why does it need to be so clear? Doesn't it taste fine even if its still cloudy?
