    Oxygenation - necessary?

Cool, I'd heard to stay away from fermenting too warm, as I'd end up with a banana bread tasting beer. I suppose if you plan around any flavor you can make something good out of it. Generally how do you oxygenate for a Belgian, how much shaking would you recommend? As for the O2, I'm still...

    Probably dumb cider/preservative question

I don't have access to pure potassium sorbate (perhaps it's available, I never have used it) I meant that I would take about a quart (so, yea about 32 oz) of store-bought, preserved cider, and add it, in the hope of keeping any more yeast from growing in the bottle, but still fermenting what's...

    Oxygenation - necessary?

This is all really interesting, but raises a few other questions: How can the yeast be said to 'require' 12-15 ppm if vigorous, deliberate aeration with natural air can only get to 8ppm? How often in its evolution in the wild, or even during cultivation, would yeast be presented with...

so my krausen is no longer in my beer

You can't tilt the fermentor? Assuming you managed to mechanically separate your yeast from your beer to the point of complete sterilization (probably a Nobel for Medicine if you can prove it), if you splash some sugar water up into the congealed yeast, you'll knock some back in and wake it...

    Oxygenation - necessary?

Provocative title, but what I'm really asking, is: Is there a such thing as too little oxygen? Once the yeast use up the O2, they'll start fermenting and stop reproduction. So it seems like less O2 would only lead to less yeast, a longer fermentation time, less trub/lees, but the same beer...

    Probably dumb cider/preservative question

Thanks guys, So I have racked into a secondary, that didn't seem to help matters, although the two fermentations were definitely less than a month (slightly less than 2 weeks per). I can wait longer on the next one, see if that helps. As for the sorbate, it looks like it will be longer...

    Probably dumb cider/preservative question

So I've been brewing beer for about 2 years now, and it pretty reliably comes out ok, but when I try to do cider (I know a lot of people who like it more than beer so it would be a nice gift) it's always WAY too yeasty. I've only tried one 5gal batch, this was when I was just starting, and...

Can you feed dried spent grains to house rabbits?

http://www.wrs.upv.es/files/journals/vol%205_4_maertens.pdf According to the conclusion it's mostly junkfood. High in protein, but lacks carbs and other nutrients. Probably good to feed them as a treat, or with supplements, but probably not going to save you a ton of money on feed.
