Why brew? A moment for reflection

Its a useful skill/art form. I'm a Chef and I enjoy cooking for the same reasons I love to brew. You are creating something (mostly from the ground up, level of involvement in both cases varies) and you can artfully create something that's never existed before and may never again. Its a true...

    My first home brew..

I say go with a bitter. Keep it simple, and have fun. Us-04 is a good dry yeast for a bitter. Mangrove jacks burton union is even better if its available to you.

Black tea in a cider sounds interesting. You "dry hop" it? Or brew tea and blend it?

2 litter soda bottles for bottling

I definitely agree it still won't hold carb for a very long time after opening. However, to harebearva's point, with the plastic pressed in and reduced headspace it should release co2 out of solution at a slower rate due to increased resistance (he resistance being the co2 having to push the...

HOMEBREW SWAP-O-RAMA #3 Lets try this again

@coyote68 Tried your Kreik last night and I really enjoyed it. I've never been a big fan of any sours or lambics. (yea I know you sent me a few but no worries, I still like to try them, especially hasmebrews) I really did enjoy this beer, it poured very carbonated and looked like a strawberry...

    Racking cane/autosiphon

If its thoroughly washed, oxyclean or pbw preferably and hrooughly rinsed I wouldn't worry about it. As long as it has no physical grime or gunk and is indeed clean. Just use any sanitizer before use and it will take care of anything else

    Favorite Ways to Increase ABV?

My favorite way to increase abv is to add more malts. Your main concern with this beer should be how to balance the sweetness of the malt without hops, what are you using?

@nedvalton glad they made it, hope you enjoy. There should be a Yoopers House Pale in there 2. That one has been in the bottle 2 weeks as of today. I haven't even tried one yet. Just refrigerated first bottle. @sfgoat I took a very basical smash IPA (Golden Promise, Cascade) about 6.6% and 60...

HOMEBREW SWAP-O-RAMA #3 Lets try this again

Awesome, never tried any progress hops (that I'm aware of) so interested to try that one. Never heard of cherries in the snow so I pulled out my copy of complete joy and looked it up. Sounds good, I like a good cherry beer when fresh is used. Extract always comes out like cough medicine (Sam...

HOMEBREW SWAP-O-RAMA #3 Lets try this again

Imo aging the 120's not worth it mean its a great beer but I liked it better fresh or at lead right when I bought it compared to almost a year later. It was a bit smoother but the flavor didn't seem any better or more complex. I've only ever had it those 2 times. I believe that was 2012...

Can I lower my fg with more yeast?

Yea I've never seen a dry Brett strain. You could try adding some type of simpe sugar like say a half pound of cane sugar. It will up your ravity a few points but should restart ferm and it should end a couple points under what it was

    Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo Breweries?

I just went kalamazo on a beergrimage last weekend. I'm from Ann Arbor. Bells has always been a favorite. On top of great beer. Their general store has a lot of homebrew stuff for cheap prices. Latitude 42 had some good brews too. Red IPA was great. Gonzos is mediocore beers in a craft...
