    What size kettle to buy?

I know this is going against the rest of the very good advice here, but, I use a 5 gal kettle for 5 gal batches of extract brew. I would go 10 if i had the room and will when i buy a new house and a propane burner. With a smaller kettle I can only boil 2.5 to 3 gallons of wort. I mix the wort...

    The CAD thread

Hey, I am a Sr. Designer for a Pool Manufacturer. I use CAD everyday for work and as a way to layout future art projects. The biggest word of advice would be to learn some key commands.

Newbie from Hudson Valley new york

Welcome from Upstate NY! When I joined I started off small with a kit. I bottled once and then went straight to kegging. Now I have a pretty nice set up. I hope you enjoy this new hobby and group. There is a lot of useful knowledge here.

Can I use my tap water? (low ppm)

A good rule of thumb is - if your water taste good at room temp, then it will taste good in beer. Another note is to not use tap water if it has to go through a salt based water softener system. With that said I always buy 5, 1 gallon jugs of spring water. Its pre-measured, cheap and super...

    Tool!

The Pink Floyd reference makes me think of The Mars Volta. I have been re visiting them lately after quite a few years and it immediately got me thinking of Tool. It has been awhile since I listened to them and this thread has convinced me it has been too long. With that said are there Mars...

    Bottling this weekend.

If you brewed 5 gal you will need at least 48 bottles. 50 to be safe. If you hold off a bit till you have the bottles your beer will not be affected in a bad way.

    The Home Made Pizza Thread

This thread inspired me to try a deep dish in a skillet. Usually I stick with a pizza stone, NY style. I may retire the pizza stone and use the skillet for now on.

Greetings fellow brewers! I have a question

The first beer I made was an ale clone. You can check various sites like midwest brew supplies. They sell good kits with instructions that are easy to follow. They also have a free dvd that you can get. I agree that putting together a recipe is better than a kit but it can be daunting when...

    Heroes (tv show)

I think I have become used to endings sucking. I will have to check out BSG and see what a good wrap up is.

    Heroes (tv show)

I was once a huge fan of heroes. There is a point that it starts to kinda suck...and by kinda I mean it really sucks. With that said the first two seasons and some of the third makes it one of my favorites. I plan to start it over soon. I also loved lost and am currently finishing the last...

    Danby DAR125SLDD Kegerator Build

This is what I built mine out of. I just cut out the shelving. It was a little messy and not as pretty to look at but it works great. I used white duct tape to fix the cosmetics.

    Albany NY

The first beer I made was a Scotch Ale kit from there and it was not that good. I have since only got ingrediants from them and have not used one of their kits. I have not been to place in East Greenbush as it is no where near me. I will have to take a drive out there on the weekend.

    Albany NY

I usually go to Hammersmith though they do not know much about brewing beer. They seem to be more of wine place. They are not bad if you know what you want and will have most things, just do not expect help if you have questions.

Very New - Help With Ingredients

I would second starting off with a recipe and perhaps modifying it a little bit. My LHBS has recipe kits they put together. This makes it pretty easy as you just need to pick out a beer you want to make and follow the directions. The more you brew the better your understanding of the process...
