    Bored this weekend...

Thinking about trying to make ginger beer with what I have on hand. Can I sub ground ginger for fresh? Or is that just a bad idea? Sent from my ADR6410LVW using Home Brew mobile app

    Neat potential project

Just ran across this and thought this would be a fun project to update with modern gear and a modern keg. I think I am going to start gathering the materials and make one...it just may take awhile Sent from my ADR6410LVW using Home Brew mobile app

    Joining wood for mash paddle

A couple of quick questions: Going through some wood scrape, I found some pieces of ash or oak. One is 6 3/8 x 11 and the other is 25 x 3 1/2. I figure I have enough for a smallish paddle, but one that should work. Looking at this I have the choice of joints to attach the handle to...

    Really cool abandoned breweries

http://www.nileguide.com/blog/2011/01/20/7-abandoned-breweries-open-for-exploration/ Kinda want to move into one and become the phantom of the brewery... Sent from my ADR6410LVW using Home Brew mobile app

    Thermoreactive paint

So here's what I want to do since I use 5l mini kegs (and I am a giant nerd): I would love to be able to look at a mini keg and tell if its cold, much like a Coors(?) can. I see a few ways to do this, buy several of the stick on thermometers and cut down to range I want since I haven't been...

    Questions on base grains

I am trying to move to all grain, since I now all the equipment I need and I wanted to try to convert an old extract recipe. The extract recipe is: 8 Lbs DME 1/2 lbs Black Patent Malt 1/2 lbs Roasted Barley 1/2 Lbs Crystal Malt 1/2 Lbs Chocolate Malt 1.5 oz Northern Brewer Hops 1 oz...

    Drilling a brew kettle

So I just picked up a propane burner and a 30 gallon pot for free. And I am trying to figure some stuff out. Like: What is the pot made out of? It looks like stainless steel, but I don't know. Who made this burner? And was the amount of carbon build up normal? Has anyone used the step bit set...

[Georgia - Metro Atlanta] Beer/wine bottles for full bottles

Yeah, it seems like Confuted and I had the exact same idea. I have 64 beer bottles and 31 wine bottles I don't need. I would love to meet other home brewers in the area and try their stuff. So bring me something, would prefer homemade, but would be open to unique commercial.

Maybe a bad idea about a wort chiller

So, finally after a few years of making beer (and getting a house to store more equipment), I moved up to a 22 qt brew pot and I have been thinking of ways of how to cool my wort. As it stands, I have been using a 12 qt pot and just been using an ice bath and then adding very cold water to my...

    Hydrometer, how are they made?

So I was knocking back a few beers with one of my non-homebrewing friends and he was asking about equipment, specifically the hydrometer and how it works. So I grabbed mine and explained how it measures specific gravity and why that's important in the brewing process. He then asked: How are...

    Wort chiller question

So I am looking into building a wort chiller as the first step of starting to build up to all grain. I think about using 20' of 3/8 copper tubing since i can build it all for under $35 right now. I know that won't be as efficient as some longer chillers, but I figure I could do this for now...

    Georgia Secondary Regulator

So I bought the wrong part on E-bay, so maybe someone can use it. Its a secondary regulator, $35 and its yours. I would be interested in trading it for (I can hope, right?): An immersion chiller A primary regulator Or make me an offer If there are no takers, I am just going to...

Super simple 5L mini keg tap

http://www.instructables.com/id/5L-Mini-Keg-Tap/ Its a really simple project. I think it took maybe 15 minutes to assemble. Keep in mind, I don't have the ability to go to full size kegs. So I am using this as a bridge between bottles and going all the way to kegs.

    Quick Stout Question

I am currently have a chocolate coffee stout in my carboy from brewing on 5 January, and visible signs of fermentation have stopped. When I try take a reading, it gets way to foamy/heady in the thief to see the top of my hydrometer. Tasting it, you can certainly feel the carbonation in your...

    Edgestar Mini-regulator w/paintball CO2 tank

Hey quick question, I am working on converting a Krups Beertender to serve any type of mini-keg and the last element that stands in my way is the gas supply. I want to use a 20oz paintball tank since, in the long run, it is much cheaper then the 16g cartridges the unit usually runs on. The...
