Evil Mold Infection or Kinky Yeast Party?

Looks like beerpes. That's the result of drunkenly brewing the tempting but dirty beer and failing to use protection. Seriously though...those bubble things look weird. That would freak me out.

    am i fermenting too warm?

I had a IPA that I brewed with US-05 and it got up to 78 during a freak 80degree heat wave in January. I was freaking out at the time. I ended up leaving it in primary for an additional 12 days (almost 4 weeks total) and I just bottled yesterday. It tasted fine to me so hopefully I won't get...

    The Science of Ice

I thoroughly enjoy the "If you saw what I saw when I cleaned _________ You would never eat/drink/go in __________ ever again." I'll just never touch or do anything ever again! Everything is dirty, everything has bacteria, everything causes cancer...

    Blow off tubing?

How do you brew more beer when you use your brew kettle for the blowoff tube??? :ban: I use a milk jug with about 1/4 full of star san. It can get gross and I don't want that crap in my brew kettle. But yes...that length of tube looks good. I like having my tube go directly into the hole in...

How long can you leave it?

You'll have plenty of yeast in your beer. You'd have to use a 1 micron filter to get (most) of the yeast out. Yeast are 1-3 micron in size.

    How much yeast?

    Use a blow-off tube...

    fermenter too hot!!

I know exactly how you feel....but there isn't anything you can do now. I brewed an IPA a couple weeks ago and we got a heat wave with temps in the 80s. Well...I was gone most of the weekend and my fermentor got up to 78 degrees for a day. I was freaking out and reading about how my beer was...

What's up with my dry hop?

So you cold-crashed and then warmed it back up before bottling? That defeats the purpose. You should cold-crash and then bottle while everything is at the bottom. It's hard to decipher your length of time. How long has your beer been fermenting (both primary and secondary combined)? I like...

Brewing my first batch, quick question

It's not uncommon for some of the liquid in the airlock to get sucked back into the beer. That's why many use vodka or star san. Get rid of the bleach. Yuck.

    NB Extra Pale Ale

You could add some corn sugar late in the boil to help add some dryness. Summit EPA is one of my favorite beers (which I have family bring to Alabama when they visit!). I am interested to see how your final recipe comes out compared to summit!

What did you learn this week?

A bottling wand will help a lot also.

    First Recipe, West Coast IPA

Dry-hopped yesterday! OG was 1.068 FG was 1.017 ABV ~ 6.69% Color is looking pretty good and the taste was nice and bitter. It should age nicely even though the temp got out of control during fermentation.

What did you learn this week?

I learned it's fun to brew alone...but it's A LOT more fun to brew with a friend. I also learned I suck a math and overestimated how much water would boil-off. My ice-block wort cooling technique doesn't work when I only can add 1/2gallon of ice.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer None More Black Vanilla Stout

Just brewed this yesterday in my new 2-weld 9gal kettle from Adventures in Homebrewing ($100-great deal!). Made a 6gal batch and put 1gal in a growler to try it with coffee added. It began fermenting in about 12hr and has a nice looking krauzen on it. I used 2 packs of Nottingham and it is...

    Rough day at work.

I thought that is what people did normally?? Why wouldn't you strain into the fermenter? It (very slightly) aerates and gets rid of the crap.

    First Recipe, West Coast IPA

This brew is coming along nicely. It's been in primate for 2 weeks and I'm going to give it another week before dry-hopping for 6 days. Looking forward to another taste!

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer None More Black Vanilla Stout

I'm brewing this on Saturday. I'm going to do a 6 gallon batch and I'm going to ferment 1 gallon with coffee added and the rest without. I am using 6lbs of Dark DME (no LME) and 1lb of extra light DME. Brewer's Friend gives me an estimated 1.053 OG and 1.012 FG coming to about 5.35% ABV. I'll...

I'm brewing beer for 100's of people -- how much to brew?

What is the average age of the guest list? When I got married at 23 at least half of the 200 people were between 20-30 years old we went through 4 kegs (2 of BMC and 2 of Summit Extra Pale Ale). At my sister's wedding the vast majority of the guests were older than 30 and I think they had 2...

What do you think of these racks?

I'm interested. Seems like you'd have to get the 3-pack for the price to be even close to worth it. I'm curious about reviews though.

    Add Water To Secondary??

Did you have 5 gallons when you originally put your wort into your fermenter? I wouldn't add water to any beer because I don't like Coors light! :rockin:
