Hi all, so I thought I would adapt a previous recipe involving chinook hops, which I am currently enjoying, but which is a little earthy for the style I am going for. My LHBS stocks citra hops at the moment, and I hear they complement Amarillo (which I really like) well. Not sure about the...

    Brew day advice

Thanks for the advice- hoping to find someone to learn from, but in the meantime I'm happy to keep experimenting and learning from my mistakes. I haven't found evidence that there are many home brewers in Surrey, UK as of yet, though happy to be proven wrong! The grain is already crushed and I...

    Brew day advice

So tomorrow I am going to have a go at my third batch- a 5gal American IPA with a recipe that calls for 2.2lbs extra light dme, 2.2lbs amber dme, 1.1lb sugar and 3.7lbs tin of coopers IPA. I am also going to steep 1.1lb of crushed breiss caramel 40L for 30 mins at 160-170F before the boil. This...

    IPA help for a newbie

Thanks again- having taken on board the advice here's what I'm thinking (I subbed in pale LME for the coopers kit which is hopped so I shortened the boil time to 30 mins and reduced bittering hops). Will try out the williamette etc next but want to try and use up the ingredients I already have...

    IPA help for a newbie

Another question on this- I have been playing around with Beer calculus, and I am struggling to get close to 7%ABV with the fermentables that I have (1.7kg Coopers IPA, 1kg extra light spraymalt, 1.3kg dextrose gets me to only 6%ABV for 5gal). Does this sound right, considering the kit...

    IPA help for a newbie

Hi all, I am new to this game but keen to learn and was wondering whether anyone has any suggestions for some ingredients that I acquired over christmas. I have a fairly standard 25l extract setup with basic equipment. I really like the big, hoppy American IPA's as opposed to the nutty ales...

    Beer Machine question

Great, thanks for the swift help. There is a bit of foam on top now, just not as much as I would have expected. The pressure is steadily increasing though which must be a good sign. I did some reading about scaling ingredients and ordered a coopers ipa homebrew kit to try next. Any advice?

    Beer Machine question

Hi all, I have just been given a beer machine and I set it all up as per the instructions (brewing czech pilsner- not my favourite but it came with the gift and seems like a good place to start!). However, I dont think that the fermentation has started yet after about 36 hours. Everything that...
