    NooB question...Growlers

From my understanding, you can really use anything that has a decent seal to carry your beer to a party. You won't really have to worry about light or much carbonation loss if you fill before you leave. If this is something you want to fill up say a week before a party then I would treat the...

    Who's made a kegerator from a deep-freezer with a wooden collar ?

I'm curious why people make the collars for the chest freezers? I have a freezer with 6 kegs and a tower tap but never understood why make a collar. I'll put some pics of mine up later tonight. Is it a height problem? or just the look?

    Smack pack isn't inflating

I've used Wyeast that had two packs inside before. I was worried once when I pitched my yeast and the pack fell out and only one was punctured. I talked to a guy at my LHBS and he said that there is usually one but it isn't that uncommon to get two.

    Original gravity is off, why?

Ironically, I'm having the same problem with a spiced winter ale but mine was only off a little bit. The kit says OG should be 1.047 and I got 1.043 after temp correction. I stirred the hell out of it to airate so I don't think it is that. I'm not too worried but my OG on my last three batches...

Can you brew on a BBQ Grill?

With turkey day over, a lot of stores that don't sell them year round will be trying to get rid of anything they have left over. You should check some stores. Last week I got a burner/stand, a 7.5 gal kettle, and thermometer set for $30 at target. Its not the best but it works well.

    Bottling bucket question

So did anyone actually find out if a homedepot bucket is foodgrade? That would be way cheaper than buying primaries from LHBS. Plus if it gets scratched up or something I can just throw it out.

    Turkey Fryer troubleshooting?

I had the same problem with a cheap one I got at target for $30. Sometime the flame was real small and turning the regulator on or off didn't do anything. What I realized is that the nob on the regulator was slipping or something and the valve wasn't actually turning. If I pushed down on it and...

Is This a good price for a keggerator???

Another thing to think about: It was made for 2 sankes, once you put two cornys in you will have a lot of room left over. That means that you will want to put 3 more cornys in and then you have to buy an expensive 5 tap T-tower. At least that's what happened to me. If you only plan on...

    Broke thermometer in Wort

As far as I know, most thermomters are not made out of mercury anymore. But either way the actual temperature tube didn't break, just the glass outer casing. My thought is that I will easily be able to get any glass out when I rack to my secondary and then once again to my keg. Also if it...

    Broke thermometer in Wort

I don't really want to toss it. I just don't want lead ball sitting in my wort for a week. Hopefully they are just steel. I'm going to try and do some research on what they are.

    Broke thermometer in Wort

I just finished brewing a banch and closing up my primary after pouring in the yeast and I noticed that I broke the glass of my thermometer. It is one of the floating types. The bottom glass broke and some of the metal balls that are used for weight might be gone (I can't tell). I think it...

    Kegging Help!

I think you have the screw too loose. Turn the screw to the right to tighten. This should make the pressure going to your keg increase though so watch your guage. Does the leak stop ever or just keep going? For me when the pressure in the keg is high and I turn down my regulator (turn screw...

The commercial dishwasher in my fraternity is inspected once a year by the city. The water must reach 195 degrees for it to pass. FYI.

    Faucet Locks

The guys I live with pay without any problems. I have a sheet with their names on it and they just put a tick mark when they take a beer. I'm not really super worried about it, I thought that making some kind of DIY faucet locks would just be another beer related project I could work on...

    Faucet Locks

I was trying not to have to use a padlock. It would ruin the look of the kegerator. My 3 roommates aren't really the problem it the 40+ guys in my fraternity that live next door. The can very easily kill 4 kegs before I even notice. I like the look of the faucet locks but there are just...

    Faucet Locks

I've been trying to research a way to keep my roommates out of my kegerator. I have a 3 tap tower in a chest freezer but I don't have the key for the freezer to lock it. I also don't want to spend $30+ for faucet locks. Has anyone seen DIY faucet locks or have any suggestions.? Right...
