    Mashing in an Insta Pot

Has anyone tried this for small test batches. I’m using the sous vide function for pork chops tonight and it dawned on me I could use this function to mash and then boil on the stove. Yes I’ve been drinking. Has anyone tried this with success? If so what’s your procedure?

Transporting Hops from PA to CA in July

Thank you for the advice! This now has me curious, and I think I will try an experiment where I try your suggested method with half my plants and then let the others grow until I move, at which point I'll trim to 3 feet. Then I'll report at the end of the season what happens. Sent from my...

Transporting Hops from PA to CA in July

So you're suggesting this will prevent the flowering cycle and thus it will constantly in the growing phase? That's an interesting point. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Transporting Hops from PA to CA in July

Yes, I've definitely written off this year. It will be a few days cross country, but I may just leave them in the containers until the beginning of next year so I won't need to deal with transplanting shock on top of the traveling ordeal. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Transporting Hops from PA to CA in July

Title says it all: I am moving cross country and want to take my 2nd year hops. They are in containers on my roof in Philadelphia and just starting to sprout. I expect them to be in full swing in July. I found other posts which suggested pruning them to 3-4 feet and then moving them. Does...

Hops in Pots - Leaves Turning Brown and Dry

I definitely agree 3-4-4 is not optimal, it was just what I had on hand because I use it on vegetables. Is the 5-1-1 fish fertilizer available at big box retailers like Home Depot, lowes, Walmart, etc., or do I need to hit a specialty store?

Ok, I'll take it off the schedule then and just monitor it, thanks.

Hops in Pots - Leaves Turning Brown and Dry

Title says it all. Can anyone help me out here? I have six varieties of hops starting from rhizomes in 20" planters in potting soil and this plant, the Willamette, took off to 4' in 3-4 weeks, then stopped growing, then the leaves/stem turned color and feel dry. I have a soaker hose running...

    Lot of headspace in primary

No, just leave it. The CO2 from the fermentation should fill that space. You might not get much if any airlock activity, but the amount of CO2 should be enough to force all the oxygen out. As long as you don't have oxygen on the beer, you should be ok.

    No yeast LHBS closed

Ok, Ill aerate again. What's the purpose of this? Does O2 fall out of solution over time despite the airlock?

    No yeast LHBS closed

I aerated with pore o2. I should be ok, right?

    No yeast LHBS closed

I sanitized the carboy then siphoned and aerated the wort. I put the airlock on, so nothing else is getting in. Am I OK until tomorrow afternoon when I can get yeast?

    Post your infection

Does it make sense to sterilize a slotted spoon or cheesecloth and skim that off first?

    Post your infection

Hey guys, I went to take a reading tonight and saw this when I lifted the lid. Is this an infection? Is it correctable?

Bottling carb for an Scottish/80 schilling

You should be fine. Those volumes are similar to an English Bitter, and I used a similar amount of corn sugar when I carbed that batch. Has a minimal head appropriate to the style.
