Tip Draw Floating Dip Tube Issue

I recent bought a couple of William's dip tubes and experienced the same issue on the first keg. Luckily I found your post and some ss fittings laying around. 🍻 cheers to you PVPeacock!

Which beer style for an "Iron Brew"?

Grape jelly= Grape flavor Donut= Bread and sweet I would try making a berliner wiesse. You could make a lighter wheat wort for the bready flavor and then ferment with either a kolsh or a wine yeast if you are feeling crazy. I would add some decent grape must and cut back on the jelly since no...

    New Brewer Panic

Good thing that you wrote in when you did! Brewing consensus is now moving away from secondary fermenters in almost all situations. The only reason for a secondary would be if the beer was going to be aged for more than a couple months. You can start brewing two batches at a time since you have...

Raw cider experiment... advice for a new guy?

I am wondering about you cooler pasteurization method. I have done very hot water bath pasteurizing for my sweet hard cider in the past and have had success. The last time though I had a bottle explode and shot some glass through my hand. I am just looking for a better method. As for the main...

Please critique my brew process and give advice on fermentation/bottling

Since you asked.. From the look of your air lock you may run into clogging problems. I have seen two makes of the three piece. One with an open tip at the base and one with a tip that is slightly covered with more plastic, creating four smaller holes. If this is the case you can have a clog...

    Swinging pulley set up.

I just looked at the unistrut idea, Awesome! I have an over kill gantry and the strut idea would have been my choice if I had thought of it :/ Please post pics when it is up!

    Swinging pulley set up.

Your should look into a short run gantry. It is a small trolley that rolls on a beam or frame. I installed an "I" beam beneath my trusses in my garage. I bought a trolley and chain hoist on amazon. Mine has a 1 ton capacity, way over kill. You can definitely make one much smaller and cheaper...

    Kettle soured Lambic

I know this flies in the face of traditional lambic brewing since the slow munching of wild yeast and bacteria create the complex flavors, but... Has anyone tried doing something similar to the kettle sour technique used for gose on a lambic? Gose is traditionally inoculated in a simmilar...

    Bare bones AG equipment

I like the idea of dunk sparging in a bucket. This could be an easier solution to the transferring of mash and fly sparging, yet still increase efficiency from a batch sparge. I have never BIAB, is it heavy to pick up 12#s of grain plus water? I am guessing it can't be more than 30# in total. I...

    http://labelpeelers.com/

I used to buy all of my hops through them. They did a pre-sale of hops each year and I would buy 10 or 12 pounds, that way I new they were well cared for all year. They never did it this year, so I went somewhere else. When I was shopping there a lot they always had good stuff at good prices.

    Bare bones AG equipment

I am looking to setup a friend with his own set of AG equipment. I am thinking about using some basic equipment I no longer use to create a beginner all-grain setup. What does the HBT world think of this idea, or has anyone had experience with this set up? 8 gallon kettle 1 Fermenting...

    Day Hikes Near Sacramento CA?

Stevens trail on the north fork of the American River Falcons crest on the south side of Folsom Lake Ride a bike up the American river bike trail, beautiful in spring Many of the great hikes are closer to Lake Tahoe, but these are a bit over your two hour drive requirement. Wort chiller for fermentation cooling

If I understand your idea... The pump will add ice water to the water bath in which the fermenter is sitting? You will have pump on the bottom of the water bath that to the wort chiller in ice water, then back into the water bath. This sounds pretty feasible; provided you have an way to add...

This is going to be another expensive hobby

If you are thinking about growing your equipment and you enjoy the hobby so far may I suggest going to all keg based equipment. Get a burner and a keggle. These will be good for extract @ 5 gallons, then also good for BIAB/lautering all grain 10g later on. Ferment in Sanke kegs. Glass is...

    Fridge Fermenting

If Florida is like I think, then no. I imagine it never really gets much below 50 where you are, although I have heard of freak frosts in towns called FrostProof. The fermentation will produce some of its own heat, so even if your ambient temps drop below the low end of ideal fermentation temps...

    Repitching dry yeast....

If it IS 1.008 and around 9 abv then fermentation is finished. I don't think you can get sacc. started up in that environemnt. Maybe brett, but only if that is what you want from your beer.

what are you guys using for heating in your chambers

I have an electric heating pad (~$30) from a walgreens type drugstore. I wrap it around the fermenter with a bungie cord. I switch my STC1000 to heating mode and use it to maintain a minimum temp in my ferm chamber. It works pretty well.
