    Second year Cascades not flowering

I am located in east Texas and we are having an unusually mild and wet summer, relatively speaking. It's still reaching the upper 90's but we are still getting rain which is not normal. My cascades produced a ton of hops last year (1st year) but this year after an initial short flowering just...

Digging up first year rhizomes a good idea?

Very good info and thanks for the photos. It helps to see what I should be looking for. I will definitely let these go one more year at least.

Digging up first year rhizomes a good idea?

Oh wow. That's good to know. Thanks. We are actually considering moving in the next couple of years. The crown can be transplanted before that amount of time, correct?

Digging up first year rhizomes a good idea?

I have a local farmer wanting to add hops to his spring planting and my local HBS may want some also so I told them I would give them one or two rhizomes from my 1st year cascade but as I started to research when to dig I haven't found much info on when to dig and what age plant is best to...

    Reducing tart-ness from fruit

I've got a Dubbel I racked on blackberries. I was wondering this same question. Mines already bottled and at 2 weeks it was more tart than I was hoping it would be. Would letting it age in the bottle possibly reduce this?

    Blackberry Blegian Dubbel

I brewed a Belgian Dubbel and decided to rack it into fresh local grown blackberries. Everything went well with the whole process. I let it sit in the secondary for about three weeks and then bottled. It has now been in the bottles about three weeks. About how long should it bottle condition...

    White foam volcano

I've ran into this before. It sounds like you just need to let it sit for another week then give it a shot. Two weeks in the bottle is a little soon. I don't remember the technical verbiage for it but basically the co2 has to have time to be fully integrated into the liquid or this will happen...

How much oxyclean do you use?

You say stench, I say wonderful aroma.

Can hops be picked too late?

The first pic is the first round of hops before I picked them. The last two are what's on the bines now. They still aren't ready to be harvested.

Can hops be picked too late?

I'm in east Texas. It's hot but its been unseasonably wet. I have irrigation setup to keep it watered though.

Can hops be picked too late?

I've got a first year cascade that I've picked a small amount that, by all indicators I've learned from reading, was ready to be harvested. Now a few weeks later I have another round that appears to be getting close. These are on average much larger than the first round I picked and already have...

    Blackberries in a Belgium?

I'll post a pic of the carboy this evening. It's very dark, not a big shock there. I've read in a few threads that using starsan was a good way to sanitize the fruit plus my local HBS owner recommended it as well. He said our local yeasties are not very desirable. Didn't want to risk it with the...

    Blackberries in a Belgium?

Got the fresh blackberries added this past weekend to the secondary. The aroma was amazing when I was racking on top of the berries. I froze them then did a soak in starsan then used a small sanitized medicine plunger to push them through my funnel. I had about three quarts of beer over what my...

    Blackberries in a Belgium?

That's good to know. I wasn't aware of the difference but back to the black berries....did you use the standard berry formula of 1# per gal? How strong was the flavor? I'm looking for subtle flavor and aroma.

    Blackberries in a Belgium?

Lol. Well you know, autocorrect kept changing it so I assumed my smart phone was smarter than me. Doh! Thanks for the heads up. Now to train my iPhone on how to spell. This, btw is one of its more innocent infractions.

    Blackberries in a Belgium?

I've got a Belgium Dubbel in the fermenter that I've been planning on racking onto fresh cherries but as I'm driving to lunch I noticed fresh locally grown blackberries for sale and the town in which I live is actually known for blackberries and they're in season so why not? Anyone have any...
