    Bottle Caps

I didn't notice the BB caps that I put on the bottle rusting. I wonder why that is?

    Bottle Caps

Ya the rust is in the same spot you mentioned, would be in the outside of the bottle. Mine were also BB caps, I wonder if they use a cheaper type.

    Don't have a 4-5 gallon pot...

I use a granite ware enamled stock pot that looks exactly like the one you described. Has worked great so far.

    Bottle Caps

I used star San as well. I also have a question about this. I soaked the entire bag, about 60 caps, in the solution and only ended up using 49 of them. The others I just kind of dried off and put back in the bag. When I was going to bottle my next batch, I noticed that some had a small amount of...

    Brewing outdoors

The day lasted a little longer than I wanted, just have to tweak my outdoor processes. I don't want to have to carry my wort inside, I need to get a way to cool it, a wort chiller is a little out of the budget and down on the wish list. I also need to get a smaller bucket to put all my things to...

    Brewing outdoors

Finished up a few hours ago. Everything went fairly well, no mistakes or problems. We will see in about 3 weeks or so how it is.

    Brewing outdoors

Ok I think I am going to chill indoors and pitch where I plan on fermenting.

Should I be worried about wild yeast finding its way in?

    Brewing outdoors

I am attempting my first outdoor brew today. I have cleaned everything, put everything in star San in my 5 gallon fermenter. Once the brew starts I will transfer some of the star San into some gallon jugs and dump the rest out since I have quite a bit already premade. A few questions I have, do...

Doing an oatmeal stout today and preparing a shandy and zombie dust clone for the next few weeks.

    Dry yeast questions

Thanks for the responses guys, pretty much what I expected and what I have been doing. I do know how to rehydrate the yeast.

    Dry yeast questions

I have a few basic questions about dry yeast. First, are all dry yeast packets supposed to be vacuum packed? I got some S-04 for an oatmeal stout and it is not vacuum packed like the Nottingham is. Second, is it necessary to store dry yeast in your fridge until use? The package only says...

    What are you drinking now?

Nice, a Shoreline beer. That is from where I am from. Crazy expensive though. Went to buy a 12 pack from the brewery last weekend and they wanted $70, same price as what they charge in the brewery.

I went "pro" - What it actually takes to do so

Love to read this thread as an accountant myself. I am in the very beginning stages of opening a brewpub myself and these tax issues are the first thing I thought about. Once I get into it a little more, I would lov to talk with you about how you got started with the licensing process.

"Pro" brewers who make beers with obvious flaws

Someone mentioned it a few pages back about putting the snob in beer snob. While I do think that some of these beers being criticized as not that good, probably are pretty damn good beers to about 90% of the population. I also think that your taste may be different then mine or the next guys. I...
