    Cider for Beginners

When do I add Pectic Enzyme? I am in the middle of fermenting a 2 gallon batch of cider I bought locally. The pre-fermented cider was pretty hazy. I just boiled some brown sugar to bump up the OG and pitched red star champagne yeast. the SG is at 1.020 right now and fermenting nicely.

Brewing Extract, without nuking the Extract.

For my extract brews: while I steep the grains in one 8g pot @ 155F, I slowly warm up the extract in another 2g pot (in about 1g - 1.5g of water). I stir the extract vigourously and when the steep is done in the other pot, I remove the grain bag and combine the two pots and commence the boil...

Fermenting with 2 different types of yeast

Yea, for the starter, just brown sugar and honey..normally I throw in the DME, but this time I didn't. I don't know why. But, the fermentation has been pretty vigorous for the past 9 days. I had a blow out tube/ bottle setup to capture overflowing kreusen. I have a good feeling about his batch...

Proper way to use a Plate chiller

Question: Can you freeze the actual plate chiller in the freezer? i'm thinking setting the whole chiller into a container filled with water and letting it freeze, like a giant block of ice but with the top just exposed so I can connect the fittings. will this damage it internally? i have...

Fermenting with 2 different types of yeast

Has anyone ever done this? I am brewing a Partial mash Hefe for the fall season and I just created a yeast starter with brown sugar, honey, Wyeast WLP 320 and A packet of Dry yeast Munich Wheat beer yeast. I had read about doing this sort of thing in the book Brew Like a Belgian. I forget...

    Bottle Cap Sizing

2 cents here. you would need a new size and bell for the capper. the caps are 29mm. its better to cork in my opinion. stronger seal and less chance of blowoff. ebay or northern brewer can help for the items needed.

Which fertilizer to use for hops?

Thanks Aiptasia, Unfortunately, I don't have compost nearby- i live in the city. I'll have to use potting soil, any suggestions? I'll also go easy on the fertilizer. That makes sense I don't want to burn the roots. The rhizome will be potted and never transferred. How big of a pot should I...

Not sure what equipment to buy

Cool! thanks PJoyce. I am at 56*F right now and getting colder. I suppose I should leave it like that for 5-7 days and then place it at higher temps? The recipe call for 6 weeks of fermentation.

Not sure what equipment to buy

So, kpr121 or anyone else: I just brewed a Partial mash Czech Pils yesterday and pitched a packet of Saflager 34/70 in the fermenter while the wort had been cooled down to 66*F. The temp in the fermenter is now down to 58*F. But I see no bubbles in the airlock. Did I do this correctly? Do I...
