    My Cooler Mash Tun

Of the 27 lbs of grains, only 1 lb of it was flaked barley. The bag of rice hulls was also one pound, I believe. The volume was actually greater, for the same weight. I added them to the initial mash, but they obviously got all stirred in with the grains.

    My Cooler Mash Tun

Whelp... I've struggling with stuck sparges recently. My previous grain bill called for some flaked barley, and it got stuck pretty bad. As I had a couple of mashes without the flaked barley that didn't get stuck, I assume that is the culprit. So with my mash this weekend, I used rice hulls...

Similar... I've pumped uphill 4-6 feet on occasions without issue.

60qt. Ice Cube Mash Tun Build - $cheap and simple

Well, I seem to be having a bit of a stuck sparge with my ice cube mash tun. I've done 3 batches with it, and I've had issues twice... and I believe both times it was with a recipe that had some flaked wheat in it... has anybody else found this to be a problematic ingredient? The other...

So you keep saying. And the hum is a factor for you. And you don't like boxes because losing the prime and or springing a leak is "scary". Quite frankly a DC motor of this (im)precision isn't really gonna notice the difference. All motors are going to have a stall point at the low end that's...

Probably. The pump I have is rated to pull ~800mA @ 24VDC, so that 1A should be sufficient... although it never hurts to have a bit more headroom on the supply side... especially with the cheaper supplies that may be rated "optimistically".

I found a 24V 2.3A power supply (similar to a laptop supply) in a junk cabinet at work. I also used a barrel connector in the pump enclosure.

I'd actually recommend a PWM motor controller rather than a simple potentiometer... there's some detail on that earlier in this thread...

Ah.. good to know. Fortunately that made integration relatively easy... Thanks.
