    Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout

Any luck with this? Did you pitch the yeast directly from the porter or did you wake 'em up with some DME? I'm getting ready to attempt my first imperial and don't really know what to do about calculating my grain bill -- I've read that higher OGs decrease efficiency. To avoid decreasing my...

Water report questions after reading water primer.

I may be late seeing this, But I agree that you could increase your chloride. I would definitely be boiling. But beyond that within extract brew there's not much point in adjusting too much of your chemistry. If you're using liquid malt extract the manufacturer takes care of most of that for...

First AG brew, using yeast never used before...Krausen OK?

Definitely wasn't finished fermenting. Looks like I got enough yeast in there to form a new, yet smaller krausen. Probably leave it for a week, cold crash a day, and keg.

First AG brew, using yeast never used before...Krausen OK?

I didn't check the gravity over a few days...was out of town and what y'all saw was the first time I looked at it. Like I said, I read that this particular yeast sometimes doesn't fall...since I wasn't familiar with it and the gravity was down to 014, I racked to be safe. There was still quite a...

[need suggestions] Frigidaire 2 keg kegerator - DIY build

Kinda fell off the wagon with updating these pictures. Have had three brews in there so far - a porter, an IPA, and currently a brown ale. Just tapped the IPA a few days ago and have my first all-grain brew on the way to put on the second tap (another brown ale -- thought it'd be cool to brew...

First AG brew, using yeast never used before...Krausen OK?

Hey Friends, So I just did my first AG beer 1.5 weeks ago, was getting ready to rack and saw the picture below. I've never seen a krausen that looked like - but have never done all grain, and never used a "smack pack" yeast pack with a starter...went ahead with the rack after reading that...

Who here has made a home brew with maple syrup? Advice? Lessons learned?

Hi there - I'm wondering if exclusion of the maple would effect anything else? Does a recipe including the syrup account for having the extra sugars for fermentation? and therefore you'd need to add something else to give it the right gravity? WjR

[need suggestions] Frigidaire 2 keg kegerator - DIY build

No electrical diagram...I have a buddy who knows a thing or two about electricity. I'm going to get him to help me (may have to wait until there's a beer on tap to give him some incentive!). In other news, most of the other equipment has arrived. Below, a picture of the kegs in the fridge...

What type of Faucet should I buy?

I just bought two of these for my kegerator: http://www.kegglebrewing.com/Stainless-Faucet-and-Shank-Assembly_p_181.html (BTW, it's about $1 cheaper to buy the faucet, shank, and assembly all together rather than individual components (go figure)) Did a lot of reading before buying and these...

BeerSmith Help on BYO Bombay After Dark Recipe from Oct. 12 issue

I've been reading more forum posts on here...could not adding water to the ingredient list effect the IBUs and SRMs? I'm just trying to figure out if it's some with my ingredient list or if it has something to do with the equipment profile I have? I basically steep my grains, add a little...

[need suggestions] Frigidaire 2 keg kegerator - DIY build

So I think I figured out how to by pass the built in thermometer, let's see if this makes sense to others as well: There should two "hot" wires feeding the thermometer. One that is always hot, reading the temperature and one that is hot only when the compressor is running to send a signal to...

[need suggestions] Frigidaire 2 keg kegerator - DIY build

Here are the initial pictures...still waiting on all the hardware, but all of it should be here by Friday! The fridge, The problematic thermostat, and The disassembled thermostat should be attached. What do people do with that thing??? I really don't want to leave the wires exposed, but...

BeerSmith Help on BYO Bombay After Dark Recipe from Oct. 12 issue

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble getting this recipe to work out with my set up. Here's the original extract recipe: 6.25 lbs Light DME 1 lb rice DE (15 min) 6 oz 2-row pale malt 8 oz chocolate malt 8 oz caramel malt (80L) 6 oz Carafa Special I malt (300L) 4 oz caramel malt (120L)...

    Belgian White Recipe Kit?

Thanks! I've been doing extracts for about a year and half. Want to try the all-grain, but have to have a place to boil the water first. My poor electric stove gets abused as it is with 3 gallons and I don't think running some propane in my house is the best idea...can't wait for a garage!

    Frigidaire 4.4 cu Kegerator Build

Hey, I may be two months late with this post...but for the next round of kegerator makers: I have the same minifridge I'm getting ready to convert. It'll fit two true (Pepsi) ball valve kegs nicely (don't have to tear too much foam off the door), two pin (CocaCola) kegs barely (as mentioned...

[need suggestions] Frigidaire 2 keg kegerator - DIY build

Hey everyone, I'm converting my first mini fridge to a kegerator! I've never kegged beer before, but am PUMPED about it. Here's what's on order: 1. 4.6 (or +) cu. ft. mini fridge (Craig's list, $60) 2. CO2 dual regulator (Keg Connection, $31.50) 3. Co2 tank- 5 lb (Keg Connection...

    Belgian White Recipe Kit?

Does anyone know if bell0347's recipe is based on leaf hops or pellets? This is going to be the first brew in my kegerator that I'm currently building! Don't wanna mess it up! WjR

    Keezer Equipment

I'd go with something you know well...an old favorite. Nothings worse than getting new equipment and being disappointed with the brew! What'r the specs on that chest? Looks like 5 cu ft...much slicker looking than a converted mini-fridge! Very nice looking! WjR
