    Post your infection

So, I've been perusing this thread and I haven't come to a conclusion on what this may be. Needless to say it looks hideous. I dry hopped with a clean, sanitized (StarSan) nylon hop bag on Sunday. Took a peek today and found these floaties on top. They look almost gelatinous. Very yucky. Beer...

Is there a cascade shortage or something?

I was placing an order from NB late last week hoping to get Amarillo for a recipe. They were sold out and I noticed they (NB) was suggesting Cascade as a replacement. Maybe that is what caused them to sell out of Cascade for the time being? Just conjecture.

    November surge in homebrewing interest

I gotta admit I contributed. My birthday was in November and my boyfriend bought me an equipment kit! I was so excited as I always wanted one. That helped at Christmas too because a lot of my gifts were brew related. I also fall into the category of it's a great hobby to have during cold...

    Fermentation temp to high

I'm very new to brewing too and just wanted to give my vote of confidence to you. I suggest letting it sit as the others have. My third brew in, I miscalculated my pitch temp too. Almost the same situation. First taste after letting it sit 10 days was horrible. It was strong banana/artificial...

    Rite of passage!

Congrats!! Enjoy! Incredible how your work and those ingredient made some awesome beer, huh? As hard as it seems, give another week or two. I am new to this as well and noticed the beer is delicious at week 1-2, bragging rights at 3-4. Enjoy! This hobby surely pays off with great reward.

    Fading hops?

Sorry this thread is a bit old, but I just had the same problem with my first brew. I brewed a Black IPA from Brewer's Best. Before bottling, the taste and smell of Zythos was there from dry hopping. Not supper strong, but present. I was pleased, but not thrilled (wasn't as strong as I would...

    Brewers best fermentation question..

Hey, Just wanted to give you some advice - Relax, Don't Worry, Have a Homebrew. This sounds like the cheesiest stuff on the planet, but it's the best advice around. Fellow homebrew fanatics turned me in to "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing". It should be essential reading before Internet...

I just drank a cream ale for the first time ever.

Thanks! I will be snooping around the recipe threads for sure. Appreciate the tip on temp. I think I can attain that temp in our loft, will have to monitor the temps up there (we keep the window open up there).

I just drank a cream ale for the first time ever.

This is a pretty great thread! I was looking to brew my boyfriend and his sister a cream ale as my next brew. Genne is one of their favorite brews and they recently lost their father. Looking through old family photos, what was the old man drinking? Squat top bottles of Genne! I am newbie to...

What do you drink when yer OUT of HB?

I am very new to brewing. I have my first brew ready to bottle in a few days and my second brew in the primary. I try to drink local because the big three and commercialized beers take away from that. One thing I suggest of all home brewers is buy local. As I wait for my beers to finish, I...

    Hydrometer Readings

Thanks Guys! I do appreciate the input. I think I'll hold off for at least another week. I wanted to make sure it wasn't going to harm anything if I let it sit a while. I'll try and bide my time reading books and cleaning labels off of bottles. :) Happy Thanksgiving to ya both. The food...

    Hydrometer Readings

Hey Everyone, This is my first post as well as my first brew. Quick question regarding this topic. How long as a general rule of thumb, how long should I wait between no visible airlock movement and taking a hydro reading? Currently it has been 96 hours (four full days). I'm starting with a...
