    Solid strut single tier build

Yep, like Dave said...black pipe from Home Depot. They had everything I needed from the pipe, connectors, gas valves, fittings, and gas lines. I used 1/2in but 3/8 or 1/4 should work too. Plenty of gas supply to my 3 BG14 burners. I've brewed a batch on this system and aside from a couple slight...

Will this sparge arm work for fly sparging?

Yes I am using the grid stand. I wanted to be sure I had some dead space since I will be direct firing under the mash tun and recirculating and don't want to take a chance on scorching grains. I can always compensate for the dead space. I use Beersmith to calculate my recipes and my equipment...

Will this sparge arm work for fly sparging?

Since I elongated the hole through the false bottom which gives me some room to maneuver the dip tube when installing or removing the false bottom, I decided to put a couple washers down to cover the elongated opening, ensuring grains won't drop through when mashing.

Will this sparge arm work for fly sparging?

Got it done today, no problems, used my dremel to elongate the hole and it came out great. Thanks very much for the input.

Will this sparge arm work for fly sparging?

Perfect Bairdo....thanks for the info. I don't think I'll have to scallop the edge since it doesn't interfere with the weldless valve fitting so that should save me from any warping issues. I'm happy to know it's been successfully done with no major issues. The guys at homebrewing.org...

Will this sparge arm work for fly sparging?

Bairdo, I had a question about the PICO false bottom if you don't mind. I have just purchased one for my Bayou Classic 62 Quart kettle which will be my mash tun and my valve sits above the false bottom. I see you drilled a hole for the dip tube into the PICO bottom. I'm going to need to do...

    Solid strut single tier build

Yeah, I'm still thinking about what to do about that. My brewing buddy is coming over this weekend so we'll put our heads together and come up with a solution.

    Solid strut single tier build

Thanks for the compliment. The casters were from Harbor Freight, I think 4 inch hard rubber, two with brakes, two without. http://www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-x-3-4-quarter-inch-stem-swivel-caster-with-brake-90999.html It was a simple inexpensive solution. It moves around just fine so far...

    Solid strut single tier build

Almost ready to go. Just need my sparge arm, and false bottom for the MLT, and a couple valves for the lids and it's done. Just thought I'd post an update picture.

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

Here's my rig in process. Still waiting for my valves, sight gauges, and thermometers to arrive. Also need to install a propane regulator, and decide on a sparge solution. Eventually I'll go RIMS with this and build a control panel, but with brewing season starting this month for me, that'll...

    Solid strut single tier build

Well, this project has been on the "back burner" (pun intended) for awhile since I don't brew in the summer. But I've resurrected my solid strut build and plan to have it finished in the next week or two, just in time for my brew season. I built the stand and mounted the burners last...

Strong Bitter Captain Hooked on Bitters (Red Hook Clone & Award Winner)

Wow, this batch came out better than the first time I brewed this. My doubling of the hops has really added some nice aroma and a hop profile that reminded me of the first time I tried Red Hook ESB. There is really nice maltiness which balances quite nicely with the increased hops. I brewed this...

Strong Bitter Captain Hooked on Bitters (Red Hook Clone & Award Winner)

So I brewed this last New Years day 2013 and was really please with the results. I've become a bit of a hop-head over the last year, so I sort of forgot about this recipe. However I think it's time to resurrect this one and bump up the hops a bit. So I've decided this is my next brew in a couple...

    Solid strut single tier build

Thanks for the reply and input lpdjshaw and Daves69. My strut order shipped today so I haven't started the build yet. I'll definitely take your advice to go a little shorter. Having it too tall kinda defeats the purpose of single tier. I was thinking with casters installed that it may be a...
