Still no hop aroma - what am i doing wrong?

Thanks all - definitely sounds like I've missed the boat on the late additions. I'll try the hopstand/whirlpool next time (never really done that). I always thought the fermentation stripped the aroma/flavor out of the hops, so I focused on the bittering mostly, then dry-hopped. But even my...

Still no hop aroma - what am i doing wrong?

Here's my pretty standard schedule. I've reduced it since buying 10 oz didn't seem to do anything... 2 oz at 60 min. 0.5 oz at 30 0.5 oz at 15 0.5 oz at 5 min 0.5 oz at FO I always tend to buy different hops each time to get an idea of the flavors. A bitter for the 60 min, like apollo...

Still no hop aroma - what am i doing wrong?

I've brewed a couple dozen DME batches so far; all of which have been some form of IPA. I'm going for a super hoppy west coast IPA. I started out using large amounts of hops (10oz) in my 5 gallon batches and dryhopping another 2 oz. I've dryhopped for 1 - 2 weeks. I'm getting frustrated with...

    Question on Hop Tea Techniques?

I'm planning to try the hop tea method myself. Going to use a french press, which I figure would be perfect for this method. My question; would it be possible to use the priming sugar water to make the tea? That way you're not using the priming sugar water and the tea water to prevent watering...

    Simple Control Panel wiring help

Without looking at it with you or having a diagram it's pretty hard to make meaningful suggestions. If I understand what you're saying; you want to activate the control box with a switch (leaving it plugged in all the time). Then from the control box you want to turn on the digital temp displays...

    spring water for brewing

yes, bottled spring water is great for brewing. I also use distilled water for brewing with good results but I believe that makes the water softer and not suitable for some beers?

    My first brew plan

I would recommend getting and sanitizing a blow off tube vs. the airlock. put the tube in the fermenter and place the other end in a small bucket with sanitize water. This should fit the same 1.25" hole (if I remember correctly) on your fermenter lid where the stopper goes. This will give the...

    First brew. Got everything?

If you plan to steep grains or your hops - get some steeping nylon bags. If not - you might beneifit from a strainer. If you plan to primary in the bottles, you'll want a food grade funnel. This stuff may have been included in 'basic kitchen utensils' but don't forget a good (and long) stir...

Simple IPA suggestions with Columbus, Cascade and Centennial

I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere before but you can refer to usahops.org for a description and suggestion where to use which hops. Columbus is definitely a good bitter hop (super alpha).

    Water Filtration

I have family in LA so I know what you're talking about. If I remember, it's a dirty metalic taste. Here in Bend I have a lot of chlorine in the water. You can boil off the chlorine but for LA water, I would either keep buying bottled spring water for best results or get one of those small cheap...

    Imperial White IPA

Sounds great. I just brewed a super hoppy batch myself with 10oz total hops - you beat me by 1 oz. I was affraid of off flavors (grassy, etc.) but it really has a great taste and aroma to it. Really heavy bitter on the back of the tounge. As long as you like hops, you're in for a treat.
