    Carboy Drank Starsan

I was not cold crashing, just letting it settle after fermentation.

    Carboy Drank Starsan

This is a completely serious thread. I had about 5 gals in the carboy at the beginning, and now have well over 6 in there now. The tube is about 3 feet long and the bucket was set below the carboy. No idea how it could have been sucked in. I think that will remain a mystery. I'll try...

    Carboy Drank Starsan

I'm wondering how bad this could be. I had a blowoff tube attached to my carboy going into a bucket with about 2 gallons of starsan. Somehow my carboy decided to suck up most of the starsan in the bucket. I know my fermentation is done since its been a few weeks. The wort (or beer at this...

    Gruit Ale

Not sure yet. I've been delayed at every turn with this one. Hoping to actually brew this weekend. As soon as I get a taste, I'll let you know how it is.

    Flavor Addition

I'm sorry, it was only 2 ounces. There should have been decimal points in there. And those are the exact same flowers that I used.

    Flavor Addition

I did. The boil was only 30 minutes, so I added 10oz at 15 minutes and 10oz at 25 minutes. When I transferred to the fermenter, I didn't filter the flowers out, so they sat with the beer for 4 weeks in fermenting. I tasted the beer after 5 weeks in the bottle, and it is delicious. I'm...

    Gruit Ale

After brewing a few batches of delicious beer, I'd like to try something a little more interesting. I've decided on a gruit. After looking around everywhere including this forum and "Sacred Brews," I think I have a good recipe. I'm just looking for some feedback. Right now I'm only set up...

    Flavor Addition

I'm going to be brewing an ale today with elderflowers. I'm starting with a German light ale recipe and adding the elderflowers at the end. I'm just not sure if I should add them at flameout or 5 minutes before. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Elderflower Ale

I've been looking all around, and haven't been able to find a recipe fir an elderflower ale anywhere. I was thinking starting with a light ale or a wheat ale and adding some elderflowers in, but I have no clue how much and when they should be added. Does anyone have an opinion? Thanks!

First time brewing question - primary fermentation temp

From what I gathered in my reading here, the co2 that the yeast is producing sits in a layer on top of the fermenting beer, so as long as you're not disturbing the beer too much not much if any oxygen will get to it. If I'm wrong someone please correct me since in very new at this as well.

    " Hydrometer test jar"

I used my beer thief as the test tube. It seemed to work really well.

    Bottling Time

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll be letting this sir fir another 2 weeks and checking on it then.

    Bottling Time

Hello, I started fermenting my first beer a week ago yesterday. It's an English bitter. I checked on it yesterday and it smells and tastes like mediocre beer. Should I leave it in the fermenter for another week or two before I bottle it, or just go ahead and bottle it now and let it mature in...

    Checking fermentation

    I was a little worried.

    Checking fermentation

I brewed my very first batch of beer on Sunday (9/30), and it seemed to be bubbling after about 24 hours, but stopped shortly thereafter. Is this normal, or has my beer been contaminated? Also, should I be taking the lid off my fermenter and checking on things, or just leave it alone for a week...
