    Yeast nutrients a little confusing...

Tried making mead like 6 years ago or so. Jumped in...didn't really have all the correct info, made several gallons and not knowing I needed to age it, dumped it after it tasted like arse after a few weeks of primary fermentation. Now I look back and want to kick myself in the butt for dumping...

1-2 gallon ferment in 6 gallon bucket ok?

It's been a while since I've brewed. Didn't have the best luck first go around. I think I went too big too soon and just wasn't equipped and ready for a 5 gallon brew. So I want to try again, this time keeping it to a 1 or 2 gallon brew. I think my equipment is better suited for a small...

    Hot and spicy Ginger Beer

Disappointed in the commercial ginger sodas, I have set out to do my own. I think I have it close to what I am looking for. I thought I'd share even though it's not that different from what others are doing. This is for 2 liters: 7oz fresh grated ginger Zest and juice from 1/2 lemon Zest...

If you like it hot...Ginger Beer (non-alcoholic)

Heading to the home brew shop in the morning...Boddingtons clone?

Need to grab a few goodies for my first bottling...auto siphon and bucket with a spigot...I thought I might as well grab the stuff for another brew. Thinking hard about doing a Boddingtons style pub ale. Just wondering if someone could help point me towards a tried and true recipe? I plan on...

    All Grain...Mash Tun vs BIAB

I want to try an all-grain next time around but I don't want to invest in a bunch of equipment until I know that I want to stick with all-grain and home brewing in general. I have a couple coolers I can use, I was just wondering how much if any difference there is in the final product by going...

First batch finished (I think), should it look like this?

Well, my first batch has been in the fermenter a couple weeks now and I'm not seeing any bubbling in the airlock. I popped the top and took a sample and it measured 1.012 so I am pretty sure it's finished. I'll bottle tomorrow. Anyways, what I am not sure about is the top of the beer and smell...

    First brew in the fermenter!!!

Well, I did it for better or for worse...here's the run down: 4oz Belgian aromatic 4oz Flaked oats 4oz Rice hulls 8oz Flaked wheat 2 gallon Steep @150 for an hour, one gallon sparge @ 170 degree. Added 6 pounds (actually more, used two 3.3# cans but I didn't scrape them clean) Belgian wheat...

Can I make a new yeast pack from left overs?

When I pitch my yeast, there's a little bit left in the tube. Can that be used to make a new starter for the next batch or is it not worth the effort?

    Refractometer...stupid question...

I have one that I used back when I have a saltwater fish tank to measure the salinity of the water. Can it be used in beer making?

    Will this recipe work?

Input? Things to change or go for it? 3.3 pounds of wheat extract (60 minute boil) 1/2 pound wheat dry malt extract @ 15 mins 1/4 oz Hallertau @ 60 minutes, 1/4 oz @ 15 minutes 1/2 oz coriander @ 15 minutes? 1/2 oz bitter orange peel @ 30 minutes? German Wheat Activator Wyeast ACT3333 after...

    Container size (initial fermentation)

Just wondering about container size. I want to try my first batch but I want to keep it a small batch, but I wouldn't mind going ahead and getting a 5 gallon bucket for future larger batches. So, can I do an initial fermentation of a 2.5 to 3 gallon batch in a 5 gallon bucket? If not, would...

    Witbier/Hefeweizen for a 1st time brewer?

I am heading to the semi-local home brew store today to see what they have to offer. I really want to do a witbier or Hefeweizen and this will be my first time brewing beer. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a reason why a beginner shouldn't start with this style. It will be from extract...
