DIY Belgian Candi Syrup - two methods debate

After some Googling, I've found two methods of darkening homemade Belgian candi syrup/sugar. Let's keep the additives aside (citric acid, DAP, etc.) and not get into the debate over cane vs. beet or whether this truly is Belgian candi sugar/syrup. 1. One method involves holding the...

    Cooling Snakes

Has anyone given cooling snakes a try to control fermentation temperature or to lager? They would have to be hooked up to either a water pump or glycol system. http://morewinemaking.com/products/cooling-snake-25-meters.html I've seen some homemade versions of this concept using stainless...

Is it possible to use the stainless barrels from bubbasbarrels.com or usedstainlessbarrels.com to force carbonate? What kind of pressure do they hold?

    STC-1000 Extending Probe Wires

I am planning on housing 3-4 STC-1000 "Ebay" Temp Controllers in a control box. Because this box would be in a central location, I'd have to extend the probe wires by soldering connections. Are there any problems that I might encounter doing this? Will this throw off the readout? How...

    PID Autotune Goes to Boil

I'm 99% that I have a faulty SSR. The out light on the PID goes off though my element light stays on. Can an SSR be faulty and only work part of the time? I was always under the impression that when it failed, it failed completely.

    PID Autotune Goes to Boil

I know that my SSR is shutting off during normal operation. I can tell because my element light shuts off when a temperature is reached in automatic mode. This tells me that the SSR is working since the relay is closed when this happens.

    PID Autotune Goes to Boil

I was following Kal's advice: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/control-panel-setup I'll try tonight with fresh water (mine's about 40F right now.) Has anyone else had this issue?

    RTD red wires interchangeable?

I purchased an RTD sensor with cable from Auber and they have colour-coded the cables red and blue. Two of the cables are red. Are the red cables that go into 3 and 4 in the PID interchangeable? I assume so since they made them the same colour.

    PID Autotune Goes to Boil

Running autotune on my Auber PID today. Set the temp on automatic to 154F. At 144F, I initiated autotune (setting to 2). The kettle continued to rise to 212F. Is this normal?

    10" water/beer filter sources

How many microns do you use? I am between the 0.35u and the 1u. I can't seem to find a 0.5u pleated filter anywhere online.

Where to find a 0.5 micron reusable filter

All that I see is carbon filters here at 0.5 microns and not sediment filters.

Where to find a 0.5 micron reusable filter

Please note that my question is not WHETHER it is possible, but WHERE to find a cheap filter. It is possible. People do it. There are lots of posts on this board about people doing it.

Where to find a 0.5 micron reusable filter

Yes, this is what I mean by reusable.

Where to find a 0.5 micron reusable filter

I cannot for the life of me find a cheap reusable 0.5 micron 10" filter to fit my whole-house filtration system that I'm setting up to run between two kegs. I want to use this to filter my beer. Based on my research, it seems that a pleated filter is the most reusable, preferably one made...

Carbonating off of more than one CO2 tank

I knew that someone with a scientific backround would be able to answer this. Thanks!

Carbonating off of more than one CO2 tank

I actually got accepted to the next biodome mission and didn't want flat beer when I got out. Didn't want to brag.
