That's a good tip! Thanks for the suggestion. I think the blow off tube got clogged or something, it being only a 1/4 in tube

    Chocolate Scotch Ale

That's what I was assuming. This being my second beer, I was just curious if it could have been anything else. Just don't want to wait 6 weeks to drink some wet cardboard lol

    Chocolate Scortch Ale

Well this was more than just a run off..so much pressure built up that I hit my ceiling as well. And that was the most dense spot. Did it just get too warm? I never would have imagined that much pressure could build up with a blow off valve set up.

Soo with 24 hours l, my plastic carboy blew its stopper and spewed beer and yeast cake all over my laundry room. It was set up with an over flow kit with the stopper pressed down tight..not sure how it could blow..any opinions?

    Chocolate Scotch Ale

This is only my second beer. Just looking for an explanation and how I can avoid it in the future. My guess is overall temperature. Also, with the top being off for who knows how long ( since I was not home for 9 hours) is my beer trash? Just started it yesterday.

    Fermentation

Finally calmed down enough to put my air lock back on..dry hopping on Sunday..and bottling next Sunday..now for the caramel stout, I was told I should add a little sugar to the beer before bottling to bring out the sweetness of the caramel. Has anyone done this yet?

Is there a special set up for the blow off or can I just pick up some tubing and a buck from home depot that fits the fermenter lid?

    Fermentation

Just started my first batch yesterday..already fermenting after 24 hours. It's a caramel cream stout with safale s 04. 1. Is this normal to ferment this fast? 2. The foam is pressing its way through my air lock. What should I do? How long will this continue?
