Off flavor/smell that will NOT GO AWAY. HELP!

What is your process of transferring from primary to bottling bucket? I think that is where your problem is (just answered the same question elsewhere). Is your bucket high enough so the siphon tube reaches all the way to the bottom, eliminating any splashing about? Do you keep a cover on...

    Plastic Taste

I think you let it aerate too much in the transition to the strawberry fermenter. You want to limit the amount of oxygen exposure once it's fermented. I could be wrong, though.

4 Gallon Cactrus bottles from Walmart

I dunno, though. Might be fine for water and general use, but I would seriously worry about the plastic leaching with fermentation....

    Drinking while Brewing

I drink anything and everything I can. It gets really hot in my kitchen when I brew, and the beer is nice to cool off. Plus, you always need bottles.

    recipe suggestion for BMC drinkers

A simple Blonde Ale will do well. It's generally easy on the hops, smooth on the flavor, and it's quick and easy to brew, even with extract.

Size for an AG boil kettle?

Heya folks, I just made the jump and constructed a 10-gallon mash tun to get ready to start making all-grain brews. However, I looked up, and realized I only had a 5-gallon boil kettle! It worked all right for extract brewing, but will it be enough for all-grain? I've heard that there's...

Beer for people who don't like beer?

I like the suggestion for the cherry wheat, that could be a fun one. And that sweet hefe was already on the list of things to do, I want to make one of those for myself! :) I'm not bothered by his comments at all, I just think it's a little sad that the only beers he really knows are the...

Whats the reason for leaving it in the bottles for 1 week or 2 weeks?

Make sure that it's in a warmer spot, too -- low 70's is key. I forgot that I put a bottle in the fridge after a week (meant to try it, ended up going home for the week instead) and came back to it being REALLY green. No head, not-quite-finished flavor, all that stuff. I tried a bottle that...

Beer for people who don't like beer?

"I hate how bitter all beer is. My favorite beer is Coors Light because it's probably the least bitter beer out there. Otherwise I'll just have an amaretto sour or some other mixed drink that tastes good." That's an ACTUAL conversation I had the other day. Someone found out I brewed...

    Boil the caps? Or sanitize?

Hey! I've been boiling my caps lately, but I was wondering if you could just dump them in sanitizer and have clean caps ready to go. I use One-Step, if that would make a difference. Also, are there any other techniques to guarantee a tight seal? Some of my caps are hit-or-miss. Thanks...

One-Month Blonde Ale? Green Food Dye?

Well, my idea was just for a cheap little gimmick for St. Patrick's Day, I was just wondering about whether or not the green food dye would be feasible and if it would mess up the beer or not. I would still like comments on the actual recipe, as I'd like to still produce a quality beer, I was...

One-Month Blonde Ale? Green Food Dye?

I don't know if anyone was aware of this......but....... St. Patrick's Day is in a month (fully tongue in cheek, I bet more people here know the date of St. Paddy's Day better than that of their anniversary). :) That being said, I have horrible timing. Two brews ready now, nothing...

Can I add Irish Moss to a kit?

Ahhh, gotcha! One TEASPOON! Now, what should I be doing regarding rehydration or just throwing it in? How exactly would I rehydrate? Just stick the stuff in a cup of water first? I'm probably reading too far into all this stuff, it's not quite clear yet :p

Can I add Irish Moss to a kit?

Well, it's a partial mash kit, and I've noticed in previous batches that it's pretty cloudy once it's fully done, I think there's room for improvement with the Irish Moss. Thanks for the quick response!

Can I add Irish Moss to a kit?

Hey! The question is pretty much what the title is. I'd like to use 1 tbsp of Irish Moss in a pre-made kit (5 gallons). Is that going to cause any big problems with the actual brew itself? Are the kits the way they are for a reason? Or is there 'wiggle room' for additional ingredients...

    Three Weeks?!

Hello, friends! Are there any beers that I can have done in three weeks? A friend o' mine thought it would be fun to have a homemade dinner and homebrewed beer for the Superbowl, but I wasn't sure if ANYTHING could be ready by then. I have all the equipment ready to go, I would just need a...

    Cheapest way to obtain bottles?

I nabbed 10 cases from a recycling center...all packaged up, too, I was able to pick out cases where people just put the bottles back in the case. It worked out very well. I second the motion to buy back from places that recollect used bottles, tons of beer stores do that and it's a great...

    I'm missing something here...

Ah, good call. How much extract should I be using?
