Funny things you've overheard about beer

Speaking of zombies, a la world war z, zombies won't attack sick people. Maybe chronic alcoholism could save us from the zombie apocalypse?

Need help with ridiculous amount of trub in fermenter

I think I'm going to try this by rigging up some nylon mesh on the inside of the spigot. Thanks for all of the great advice, everyone. I may end up using several methods mentioned.

Need help with ridiculous amount of trub in fermenter

It was a major challenge. Without constant stirring at mashout, it would have taken days to lauter ended up unintentionally fly sparging just to keep it loose enough to flow. Still took about 3 hours to get 6.5 gallons into the kettle. I had seen recipes of other people using graham crackers so...

Need help with ridiculous amount of trub in fermenter

I brewed a pumpkin ale last week with 90oz of canned pumpkin and 3 lbs of graham crackers in with the mash. I had 2 lbs of rice hulls in there too, but it didn't matter and I had a completely stuck sparge in my cooler mash tun. In the process of getting the sparge going, the braided line in the...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Finally boiling after the longest sparge ever. Just so everyone knows, graham crackers and canned pumpkin make for a terribly stuck sparge. Destroyed the steel braid in my cooler mash tun while getting it flowing. Maybe it's time to buy a real one. :) Edit: Even with 2.5lb of rice hulls.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just mashed in my pumpkin ale. Finally got a chance to brew it this year. Trying out my new setup and made a few tweaks, so hopefully it comes out as good or better than last year's did.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

We use a very close chemical to PROP in the lab to prevent pigment formation in zebrafish embryos. It's called PTU and it can be used to used to identify supertasters as well. I'm crazy sensitive to it. If I get any on my fingers, no matter how often I wash my hands any food I touch for the next...

You all are awesome! Looks like I have quite a bit to search for. I want to get some Surly and New Glarus for sure along with anything else I can find that you all have mentioned. Going to have to make a list from this thread and start searching for where to stop along the route.

Beer Purchase Suggestions - Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota

I am headed to visit the in-laws in Minnesota next week and need recommendations for beers to look for along my way that I can't get in Ohio. I will be passing though Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota and going through Chicago, Madison, and Minneapolis/St. Paul if anyone can suggest beers to...

Computer Crash = Lost All My Recipes

I don't think I have many options anymore. I did everything I could think of or could find online to get it working again, but the only thing that finally worked was a triple pass format of the disk and re-installing the OS. Recovery partition had vanished, the bootloader corrupted, and I wasn't...

Computer Crash = Lost All My Recipes

My computer decided to perform Hara-kiri yesterday and after spending most of last night and today working on it, it is back functioning. But stupid me didn't have a total backup, and basically lost everything :smack: How can this possibly relate to beer? Well, I just realized I still needed...

    What are you drinking now?

Cream of 3 Crops. Possibly the best beer I have made so far. And definitely the most clear. Hard to choose between this one and my ipa, so maybe I need one (or two) of each.
