    Single kettle electric frankenstein brew

Some progress :) First relay was melted (but functional) so I addedd a new relay with heatsink. To prevent such melting in the future , I added a extra sensor in the hardware compartient and created a option for overheat alarm. Cable for controller is finished, time to wrap it up. I have...

    Single kettle electric frankenstein brew

The thermostats in this lidl/silvercrest kettle isn't very accurate. That's way I have put a arduino with SSR between it. The knob has no function anymore. You can see on the LCD when the heatingelement is powered on or not. Funny to see that with just poking a few seconds can easily get to that...

    Single kettle electric frankenstein brew

Hi, Normally I brew with my neighbour with a 60 liter HERMS setup. Inspired by GrainFather , I'm rebuilding my old electric pot, trying to do with styff laying around. Started with only buying a BIAB bag, resting in a RVS strainer. Works OK but was messy. After that I bought a RVS pot...

Questions about barrels and starting a solera

I have no idea where to get barrels in USA. I bought my barrels on several place. My first barrel, 50 liter oak used for wine. Came from my local homebrew shop. My second 100 liter chestnut barrel came brandnew from a seller thath sells all kinds of barrels for water reservoirs. My third 225...

Questions about barrels and starting a solera

It depends. Do you want the tastes/culture from the previous contents? If yes, soak with hot water and rinse. You could burn a piece of sulfure that is designed to disinfect a barrel? Not sure it exists in your area? Until now I haven't done much effort on cleaning barrels. Just soak and rinse...

Searching for the holy grail in recipe and brewsoftware, does it exist?

Thanks for all the helps and tips. I have created my own Excel sheet in the past. All my recipes and inventory where in the workbook. On the first sheet is a index of all the recipes. Each recipe will color red or green, depending on the ability to brew that recipe based on inventory. Even...

Searching for the holy grail in recipe and brewsoftware, does it exist?

I didn't found the inventory based stuff in BS ? Did I overlook? Only option I could find, was add ingredients to inventory and deduct them when brewing. But not giving info on breweable recipes, based on inventory ? (or perhaps I don't understand your first line to well, since I'm not native...

Searching for the holy grail in recipe and brewsoftware, does it exist?

I have played a bit with BeerSmith today, but I'm missing to much of my requirements to make the switch. I would be goping from one half working program to a other (not found : inventory based brewing, easliy adjust hop alpha without recalculaitng IBU). Probably sometyhing I should get used to...

Searching for the holy grail in recipe and brewsoftware, does it exist?

I'm searching for new brewsoftware, with a lot of requirements. So far, I haven't found something that fully fits my wishes. My list of requirements, please let me know if anything gets close enough to try ;) - Webbassed, online, cloud. No local installation. - Metric system - multiple...

Opinions on how to use my 3 gallon barrel

But you want to get some of the air into the barrel and wort, to let the beasties grow. So I assume you should leave some part of the barrel un-waxed, right ?

Why would you wax the outside ?

Lambic in a 1 barrel solera

Thanks for the answers. Of course I'm familiar with gueuze (I'm from the Netherlands) ;) Allthough my Lambic is not a gueuze, I'm considering it as q gueuze at some point in time. I'm not sure if there is a written guideline that a oude gueuze has to be made out of 1,2 and 3 years. Trub build...

Lambic in a 1 barrel solera

Hi, I'm wondering if someone has experience with a 'traditional' lambic in a 1 barrel solera ? I have a 100 liter chestnut barrel (bought unused and new). After cleaning and soaking with water, this barrel was filled in February 2013 with wort that was left in the open air for at least a...

    5 Liter Kegs

You could try one like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PARTY-STAR-DELUXE-5-LITER-MINI-KEG-CO2-TAP-/271332731706?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f2cb0eb3a But 50 USD is a bit expensive I guess. I think these party taps are rare in USA?

    5 Liter Kegs

I don't recognize any of your problems at all. Just don't use the bung the keg comes with, but buy the bung/stopper I mentioned earlier in my reply. When you use the stopper with the pressure release, your keg will never blow. It will simply release/dump a to high level of CO2. The only problem...
