Bubbles in airlock after adding hops

I toss in 1 oz of hops the other day into my primary fermenting carboy. My beer has been in the carboy for a little over 3 weeks now. I checked on the beer the next day and saw activity in the airlock(which had previously stopped). Here are the before adding the hops and after pictures of my...

    Adding Sugar to Primary Fermenter

Hey All, I want to add a little bit of sugar to my carboy to increase the alcohol ( I changed my recipe last minute while boiling the wert and realized I forgot to put in more malt/sugar to increase alcohol) I pitched my yeast a little over 48 hours (as of right now). My airlock started...

    Stout Fermentation Temperature

Hi all, I currently have my bedroom set at 66F. I keep my primary in a closet with no door so it keeps the same temperature as the room. I also have a small fan that has been blowing at full capacity since brew day which was 2 days ago. Do you think this is good enough for keeping it cool?

    Hops in wort into Fermentor

So I brewed my stout today. :rockin: Tossed in my hops according to schedule. Chilled my wort down like normal. Poured all of my wort into my fermentor, pitched hydrated yeast and Done. I notice now about 4 hours later there is already a huge layer of crap at the bottom. I am...

    Saving a yeast cake

I just bottled some cider and have a yeast cake with about 3/4 inch of cider still on top of it. I know people save yeast cakes but my question is about the cider still on top of the yeast. I believe I got a lot of oxygen into the remaining cider and am wondering if that will have any affect...

Clear beer goes cloudy after Fridge

I put an IPA that has been bottled for 6 days into the fridge. The beer was very clear to begin with and I figured chilling it would cause everything to drop down but now that I look at the IPA...it is all cloudy. What is the reasoning behind this? I did a very very good job of chilling...

    Yeast Cleaning up Their Waste

Everyone says to leave your beer in the primary for many weeks to allow the yeast to go and eat up their waste. Will the yeast do this in the secondary and the bottles? I had a large yeast cake in my secondary and I have some yeast on the bottom of my bottles so will the same thing...

    When to bottle

Hello, I put my cider into the primary on October 1st. It is now October 17th. I did not take a hydrometer reading because I do not have a hydrometer here at school with me. Looking at the sides of the primary I can see very very small bubbles popping all over the place. Not as many...

Beer Dilemma! HELP A BREWER OUT

I brewed an IPA and started it in the primary. NO PROBLEMS I transferred it to the secondary 8 days later (I know Revvy this was very early), threw in 1 oz of hops and a small amount of light oak chips. I do not want to have the IPA resting with hops and oak chips for more then 7-10 days...

3 gallon batch in 5+ gallon fermentors

I am looking to brew a scaled down batch and all I have are large buckets/carboy that I use for full sized batches. Will I still be able to ferment in my current equipment without worrying about all the extra head space? I plan to brew a 2.5 - 3 gallon batch and use 5 gallon equipment.
