Not all 12 oz are created equal...

I've always noticed, in terms of weight: Samuel Smiths > Paulaner > Flying Dog > Sam Adams > typical bottles Never weighed them (just sensed by holding them), but I've suddenly got the urge to. :D

    Lid leaks on new keg

Okay thanks for the tips, guys... Kegging is fun! :D I'll probably get some keg lube if it helps the seal, but the consensus seems to be that it's not absolutely needed. I guess my next batch will incorporate yet another piece of equipment. ;)

    Lid leaks on new keg

Well, I repositioned the seal and the lid, and it seemed to have worked that time. Yeah! :rockin: What's keg lube? Is it required?

    Lid leaks on new keg

Hi all. The other day I ordered a brand new kegging system from Northern Brewer, with a new keg, never used before. I'm washing it out with PBW, and I was hooking it up to the gas to check for leaks (and to push the PBW water out). Problem is when I turn on the pressure, one spot on the...

heat issues, or why I am not fond of electric stoves

I had this same exact problem. Took almost 2 hours for mine to achieve 212F. The next day I ordered a turkey fryer, and I'm not looking back. Although I wish I had thought about Thanksgiving and all the local places stocking them cheap, d'oh!

    First brew; several newbie mistakes

Okay guys, thanks for the responses. I feel a little better about this batch. :) I'll take a gravity reading when the fermentation's through, and top off accordingly. One question: is it supposed to SMELL this much? It's not a bad smell, like I said it's almost identical to an In-Heat Wheat...

    First brew; several newbie mistakes

It's supposed to be a hefeweizen. I used WLP300 with 7lbs of 60/40 wheat/barley liquid extract. It smells and looks just like Flying Dog's In-Heat Wheat. I think I was mainly wondering if the concentrated wort would pose a problem for fermentation. (Sounds like it'll be fine.) I might give it a...

    First brew; several newbie mistakes

(This is my first post here, though I've been lurking for a while. Please be gentle. :D) Yesterday was my first brew. It was rough, and several things went wrong. Here's a list: I suspect I didn't wash the wort chiller well enough. I of course waited till the last minute to measure the...
