I discovered in another forum that EEE readout is an alert for temperature sensor problems. I therefore replaced the damaged part with a new thermistor and re-connected. The Willhi WH7016G now works perfectly. This may be of assistance to others with the same problem.

Fitted willhi controller to a brew belt. it responds to switching on and off and also when I set the temperature required for diacetyl stage of a Bock beer . The temp readout lasts for perhaps 15 seconds then changes to EEE. I can't see anything which refers to such a readout on the instruction...

501irishred, Most of our winters are relatively mild, temperate maritime , around 5-8*c. Only rarely do we descend to -5 or less if a low brings in cold wind from the Arctic. Thanks for all your advice.

501irishred, With your advice and some from another section of the forum, it is clear that the quickest way to cut the Gordian knot is to install a separate fridge unit and this is what I'll do when funds permit. Thanks for everyone's help.

threedogsNE, Thanks for your explanation which confirms the main difficulty. If I am to get on with my plan for all grain brewing with the least problems, a separate fridge is clearly the way forward and that is what I have decided to do.Thanks to others for their help also.
