bottle conditioning temperature same as fermentation?

He wasnt kidding. Producing 'still' bottles means no carbonation. So, yes, the oven at that temp for about 20 minutes is to just kill the yeast. If you have something with a lot of sugar added at the back end, like real fruit/juices etc., you would want to bottle and let naturally carb up to...

How do YOU name your beers?

I dont really name my beers, Basically refer to them by style. However, my brew buddy "named" my first beer. A while back when I got started, I picked up an Irish Red extract kit from my LHBS for my first beer. So as I was brewing it, we were talking and he showed me a video of a comedian...

    The Walking dead

Thank you so much for posting Munch!! That is hilarious. I have only found the NFL ones to be funny up to this point, but that one was classic! That is exactly the way I needed to start my day!

    1 year anniversary

It was amazing. It had a great flavor one year later. I was afraid that the flavors would meld together too much or possibly be over carbed. And, it was great. I highly recommend this practice to others!!

    1 year anniversary

I am super stoked to get home tonight!! 1 year ago today, I bottled my first ever batch of beer. It was an Irish Red extract kit. I saved 1 bottle of each batch and plan to drink it on the anniversary date. Man, when I bottled it, one year seemed so far away, but looking back it sure has...

    instant beer?

I think it could be huge, if it produces anything resembling the taste of beer.

    The Walking dead

Alright, any of you see the trailer for Season 4 that was released at Comic-Con this past weekend? It looks like there will be some cool story lines playing out, including Rick taking a step back from leading the group, as well as the 'walkers' adapting and working together to accomplish their...

    Floating globs of yeast cake?!?

So I tried my hand at a Bell's Two-Hearted Ale clone about 3 weeks ago. It was my first time using WL Califorina Ale liquid yeast, everything went smoothly on brew day - until I realized about 2 days into primary fermentation that I never did aerate as well as I usually do. I did stir in the...

    Let's Grow!

Because there is no way to test for your IBUs. You would be unable to produce correctly tasting/consistant brews.

    Caramel Apple Hard Cider

I recommend boiling cinnamon sticks. You get all of the flavor without any of the sediment. My last batch I use 4 cinnamon sticks in 2 cups of lightly boiling water for 10 minutes. It came out extremely tasty!

    Kegging

I just made the plunge. $320.00 out the door for 2 kegs, a filled 10lb co2 tank, dual regulator, 2 picnic faucets. I had an old fridge in my basement anyway, so I just house them in there for now. But I am eyeing a Danby 4.4 cu mini-fridge that does not have freezer for $169. So when I add...

    Gravity reading of carbed beer??

Awesome, that was my thought. Let it go flat, then it will be accurate. Thanks!!

    Gravity reading of carbed beer??

Is it possible to get an accurate gravity reading if there is already carbonation in the beer? Or will the carbonation cause the reading to be higher or lower than actual? Thanks for your help!

It just really gets under my skin...

It just bothers me when people say, "Oh, no thanks - I don't want to drink your home brew because I don't want to go blind" or another one I can't stand is, "You actually drink the beer you make? I wouldn't do that, I'd be too scared since you aren't professional". To the last one I say, "I...
