    No activity yet...

Plastick bucket. The Gravity has dropped, so I guess it is fermenting. It just had really little airlock movement. I started at 1.052 and I'm currently at 1.011 Here's hoping!

    No activity yet...

I'm on day 4 of BubbleWatch 2007, with no airlock activity in sight. There was a bit of excitement on Day 2, but that ended in some slight movement and no bubbling. In a stunning move, I've decided to become a beacon of patience and understanding to any other beginners out there and am simply...

    Fining beer question

And this is why the Germans know their beer. They have a word specifically for the concept that beer should contain 3 ingredients: 1)hops 2)malt 3)water Reinheitsgebote, indeed!

    opening a beer store

Liquor Licenses, in NYC are for addresses, not companies. So if I wanted to move a bar from one side of the town to the other, I'd have to apply for a new one. Of course, that can still be blocked (after approval!) by the community board and lead to upwards of a year long delay in opening...

How much beer do you drink?

I always have a few beers a night, my gf and I both. I try to steer clear of hard liquor these days, or at least I try to avoid drinking both (sometimes it's a vodka tonic kind of night). On the weekends, depending on the situation, she'll keep pace with me until we hit beer 6 or 7, then she...

My Newest Brew Assistant (Rated – G)

Hrm? What? Post a picture of my dog, too? Okay.... She likes to bark at the fermenter when it bubbles.

    opening a beer store

This is actually a fairly brilliant idea. I live in NYC and there's absolutely NOWHERE, not a single place I've found local that I can pick up brew supplies. Opening up a small Brewshop in Park Slope (the heart of craft country) would be a fantastic idea.

    Schützengarten

I know this is a little off topic, but as we're buying our rail passes soon, I wanted to ask: What do you think the best deal would be for a 6-day trip, as far as rail passes go? How much more would it cost to include transit in Germany? We fly into Zurich and train out to St. G...

    New label for CJB Brewery

label redux: probably one more revision and then it's ready!

    Schützengarten

Awesome! We definitely have Appelzell on the todo list, as the phrases "dairy village" and "cheesemaking" are absolutely heavenly in my opinion. Basically we're gonna go wherever the rails/boats will take us. Anywhere in St. G itself that are must-sees? (ie restaurants and such)

    Schützengarten

So my gf and I are going to visit a friend of mine in Switerland in about a month, and she found that Switzerland's oldest brewery is right near our hotel! http://www.schuetzengarten.ch/ Sweet lord, I can't wait! I'll be sure to post some pics of the brewery. Also, any europeans or...

    First brew in bottles....

So my first ever homebrew is quietly aging in a cabinet, and I'm standing strong and not opening a single one for at least 2 weeks. I ended up with about 2 cases. It was: Northern Brewers Honey Kolsch SG: 1.052 Final Gravity (FG?): 1.011 So, if the formula I saw was right, I hit about...

    New label for CJB Brewery

As much as I'd like to concede that level of detail, I have a couple of barcode brushes in photohsop and just used a random one.

    New label for CJB Brewery

It came from back when I was in middle school there was this brand of soda with a pirate on the label, and one of the flavors was god-awful, and my friend dubbed it "Capt. Jack Bilgewater's Bottom Feeding Piss Drink." And so it was born. It just makes me laugh.

    New label for CJB Brewery

I present to you Captain Jack Bilgewater's Bottom Feeding Piss Drink (the pirate is still a pencil sketch, and the scroll needs re-doing), but i wanted to see what you guys think: edit: here is the text on the side: "on the southern shores of the french coast, mime divers spend their days...

    Brewday 9-22 -- My First!

Thanks for the wet towel tip! I have it nicely cooled to a balmy 70degrees.

    Brewday 9-22 -- My First!

Chill out (I didn't have a lid for the pot, so I sanitized some aluminum foil) Then everything happened all at once with no one to take pics of it, so it's all together here: It looks like it's running a little warm (yeast tops out at 78deg according to the package), but...
