    Ranco 2-stage temperature controller

No outlet, I just have the plug and two female cords sticking out octopus-style. I managed to wire-nut all three neutrals together with a fourth wire and put that one in the "com" terminal on the Ranco. I have the hot wire from the wall nutted with three other wires, one goes to the "120"...

STC 1000 "Ebay" Temperature Controller Build

For the wire nuts splicing three lines into one, does the one line need to be a higher gauge than the ones leading into it or is it fine to be the same?

    Ranco 2-stage temperature controller

I'm trying to wire-up a 2-stage ranco to my fridge and space heater, but having a nightmare getting the wires into the contacts. The videos I found are all for the one stage, and I was able to splice two wires together to get them into the contact. For the two stage though, I need to splice all...

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

That seemed to do the trick, thanks for the confirmation. Picked up a 2.5 gal ceramic pot to use for the mash instead of my 6.5 gal brewpot.

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

Thanks for the guide! This seemed like a pretty effortless step up from steeping/extract so I gave it a shot. I've tried this twice now but mine doesn't quite look like this (I should have taken a picture but never did). I use the same ratio of water to grains but it doesn't seem to be enough...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

I copied the recipe for the most part with only a few changes. I used 0.3 oz. of Nugget hops instead of the Goldings, I added more than a tsp of spices (8 g), and I added a small amount (0.33 oz) of vanilla extract at bottling (GF requested pumpkin roll beer). Not really sure if I did something...

    Burnt Brewpot?

I did that once, that's what formed the black layer. Did I need to boil water a second time? I didn't use any cleaners on it, the black came just from boiling water. I wasn't able to scrub the black off, so the ease with which it came off in the wort made me wonder if the black stuff comes...

    Burnt Brewpot?

Bump. Any thoughts on what's in there? Is it safe? Carboy fermented fine, the big bubbly yeast cake left a lot of what looks like dirt on the upper walls of the carboy, but that is normal, right? The room it's in just smells like beer, if there are off-smells they aren't strong at least.

    Burnt Brewpot?

Update: searching for "black aluminum brew pot" turned up some other threads suggesting that it was fine and just oxidized, so I brewed with it. The pot is now a lot less black: Was the black stuff something other than aluminum oxide that came off in my beer? Any metallurgist-types have an...

    Burnt Brewpot?

So I got an aluminum Brinkmann turkey fryer from home depot, and had read that you should boil water in it for a bit to get the oxide layer on it. I boiled for an hour, and ended up with this: The fryer got covered with some kind of white ash that wipes off clean. The bottom of the pot...
