Home brewing saves you money? HAHAH!

Here in BC Canada a 12 pack of Miller in bottles is about $24 so at $2 a bottle it's easy to save. Most of my brews seem to come in at about 50 cents a bottle. But like many, I would do it anyways because I like doing it. It's the most rewarding hobby I've had.

Pardon me while I brag on my freaking awesome brew...

Congrats on a great beer :) That's about how I feel about this hobby too. The first one was drinkable, the next was good, and the rest I have greatly enjoyed.

    Washing and re-using wine yeast?

I have to agree. I'm pretty cheap, but even I wouldn't do this. Alot of the wines I make are fruit wines and I age them for a year. The thought of putting all that effort into a wine and risking anything to save a buck doesn't appeal to me.

    American Lager West Coast Pilsner

I brewed this and just tried it tonight. I am very happy and relieved. It's the lightest beer I've done and I tasted it at bottling time after adding carb sugar and it was sickenly sweet, but 15 days later is quite good. The only difference was I used White Labs San Fran yeast. Thanks for the...

First brew ever! Now how to improve?

Danstar Nottingham is an easy to use dry yeast with a neutral clean flavour. I have made enjoyable beer with Coopers kits and as little as an extra pound of dme.

    Stepped Starter

I've started my first step on a stepped starter for a vienna lager using white labs german lager yeast. I've added 100 grams of dme to one liter of water and have it at 12 celcius. I have an aquarium air pump aerating it constantly. It's in a one gallon glass container and I plan on 3 stages of...

    Dos Equis

    Where to buy?

At my local brew store it's $12 per pound of dry extract and it's all expired! What a deal :p After about a year of supporting them I couldn't take it anymore and searched for an online dealer with free shipping. WWW.beergrains.com has free shipping for ordered of $100 or more and is 5% off for...

    What to do

Thanks for all the great responses, guys. As soon as I get home from work today I'm going to rack to the secondary and before I start my next one I'll find a proper primary.

    What to do

Would there be any harm in getting it into the carboy sooner?

    What to do

I love this forum. I have spent at least 12 hours in the last 3 days reading everything I can. I started a Cooper's english bitter kit 4 days ago. It's my first crack at brewing beer. I've done about five different wines in the past and I don't even really like wine. (my wife does) So what I...
