Hey All, I'm in the middle of my brew rig build and i've got a question about lighting the banjo burner. I cant seem to get the thing lit by putting the lighter in 1 location, i have to wave it all around the burner above all the jets to get it going, is that normal? If i get it lit in 1...

Hey All, You guys ever see what looks like yeast sticking all over the sides of your carboy(better bottle) during primary? I've got a vienna lager with munich yeast and there is all kinds of stuff stuck to the walls. Its been going for about a week, it still has krauzen on top, and...

    Dry Yeast In a Wit

Anybody have any good results using dry yeast in a wit, and if so which strains? I want to brew a 10 gallon batch this weekend but I dont have time to grow up my yeast from a slant and I dont want to buy the liquid strain again. I was thinking of splitting the batch and pitching Safale...

    Anyone Use Wyeast 1388???

I made JZ's Golden Strong a couple of weeks ago, fermentables were 11lbs pils malt, 3lb table sugar. I followed the temperature profile for fermentation, as laid out in his book pitch at 64 and ramp up to 82 over the course of 1 week. Its been a little over 2 weeks and I checked the gravity...

    Hop Rod Yeast

Does anybody know if Bear Republic's Hop Rod has a live strain in it? There is a lot of sediment on the bottom, but the bottle mentions sediment from hops(not sure if there is any yeast in all that). If it does have a live strain in it, does anybody know what it is? The reason i ask is...

Whats wrong w/ my stir plate?

So i just finished up a DIY stirplate project and i am having trouble getting the bar to spin right. Instead of spinning about the center like a propeller, the best i can get with the flask as close to the fan as possible is the stir bar spinning with the fan. Kind of looping around the center...

    Temp Control ??

Whats the best way to maintain temp with two stages (heating and cooling)? I have a refrigerator hooked up now with a ranco 1 stage controller. So i am thinking if i replace it with a 2 stage i can use it to heat and cool, since there are often times where i would need to do both. The...

    Keggle & Whole Hops

I don't have much experience with using whole hops in my brews, i used to mainly use pellet and then whirlpool. I recently acquired a bunch of whole hops to meet my needs until the market stabilizes and I am not sure what i should do to my keggle to strain. I've looked around quite a bit and...

    "Grainy" Aftertaste

I just finished up a split batch of a pale ale, a pretty close variation to Ed Ws Haus Ale. Both beers taste good, but i notice a somewhat sweet grainy aftertaste. I brewed a blonde ale several months ago and i noticed the same flavor. At the local homebrew meeting one brewer thought i had...

    Cutting a Keggle

I've been reading up around here about cutting the top of the keggle open and i have access to two methods i've seen so far, grinder and sawzall/recip saw. From what i've seen, all the guys cutting with the recip were using bi-metal metal cutting blades. Has anyone tried carbide grit, carbide...

    Will This Work????

So i brewed a beer for an event this weekend and i feel as though it does not have enough hop flavor. I made a blonde ale because i wanted more of a crowd pleaser beer for the BMC drinkers, but i think it really needs some more hop flavor. I think it needs it to balance the malty aftertaste...
