    Kegging slow and low

With the low and slow method it usually takes my beers 2.5 weeks to get where they should be, carbonation-wise. That doesn't stop me from drinking them along the way, though...

Where to buy shanks and faucets

Birdman has decent prices. Also check out Adventures in Homebrewing and Farm House Brewing Supply. Don't forget to factor in shipping when you shop because that will often be the difference in terms of price...

    Dimensions of 3 Piece Airlock?

I have fermented full batches with a sanitized foil cover on my bucket fermentor. I was nervous the whole time but it worked perfectly and there was no contamination. The fermentation even put out enough CO2 that the foil (which was crimped around the top of the ferment or) billowed out...

do I need to completely disassemble forward-sealing Perlick taps to clean them?

It sounds like what one other forum member said... air getting in your lines/loose connections. I had this happen when my out post on my keg wasn't totally tightened down after cleaning. It wouldn't leak beer or CO2 (!?), but on the pour I got tons of foam and I noticed my lines would slowly get...

    Definitions of Beer Styles?

I'm not sure, but since I started paying attention to these things around 1999 it has always been a pale ale...

    Opinion Needed...

I sort of had limited funds to spend, too, and decided to go with the taprites. My thought process was similar. "Buy once and be happy" - in buying brewing gear I think the best advice is to envision your ideal gear and get that. It can be hard. Right now I do all grain. But don't have the boil...

    Opinion Needed...

I can only say I like my taprites, but I don't have any other brands. My brother in law has a cheapy regulator that I occasionally have to adjust, and I hate it. However, a good regulator is one that works... in the end as long as it lets you control your CO2 you're good!

    Opinion Needed...

I think they'd all work fine. My Taprite makes my life easier...

Bottle froths up after 1st sip - Why

This might sound funny, but it could be due to poor drinking technique. If I take a swig quickly and the set a bottle down that happens to me once in awhile, too, even with commercial brews... pour in a glass and the problem disappears. Or drink more gently!

The reality of the bottle bomb.

Fro. The way you describe the bottle breaking it sounds like the bottle might have had some structural issues, too. Maybe a chip or a manufacturing defect. Combine that with over carbonation and problems crop up. I've only had one bottle bomb ever, and I suspect it was caused by a bottle defect...

Are Kegs, CO2 tanks, safe around small children?

Keep in mind that the CO2 tank and the kegs have safety release valve on them, too, which is meant to *safely* release pressure if it gets too high or something goes wrong. Still, be reasonable with it. Don't leave the stuff out and accessible to the young ones!

    spent grains

Sue, try searching for local home brewing clubs. They might be able to get the word out to home brewers who could help!

Anyone use both Pin-lock and Ball-lock?

I don't know if they'll fit, but I run both no problem. Just be sure to get MFL disconnects on you gas and liquid connections and it's easy!

Why CO2 tank and regulators inside kegerator?

Mine is inside the kegerator because it's in a garage which is not completely climate controlled. It can get up to 105 degrees F in the summer, and I've actually had a safety disc blow out on my tank at that temp... so it stays in the fridge so I don't have that happen again! My advice would be...

    Kegerator/co2/beer line/carbonation

Keep in mind, too, you have to bleed the pressure off of the keg many times to decarbonate the beer. You probably know that, but in case you don't...

What is Your Efficiency - batch Spargers

3 brews identical to above and I get 78% (as high as I want it!). Hit your temps on well-crushed grain and your efficiency should be good!

Thinking about converting to all sanke kegs.....

I'll say this: based on a few months of observation this board is really, really friendly and helpful until: - the commercial keg (ahem) repurposing comes up (as you now know) - someone starts talking about their opinions on Secondary fermentation - no-chill brewing is brought up The last two...

    Thoughts on Chinook IPA recipe

I did this one and with some slight adjustments because I have been No-chilling the Tinseth IBUs were 67.5... haven't tasted it yet.

AG: how long is your normal brew session (milling grain to fermenter)???

I like this. Brewing is my hobby, and though I take it seriously, I'd better enjoy it or it'll become yet another job... and I have a demanding job and family life, so I get the pressure to get things done. I just feel like brewing is my art, so I'll take my time if I can.
