Thoughts on this IPA BIAB recipe? System only holds 13.5 lbs of grain.

I really like this idea and the idea by other gentleman to use the Cent and Amarillo more for flavor and aroma. I think I can incorporate both ideas by starting the hop additions at 30 mins with the Cent and hopefully drawing more flavor and aroma from 30 versus 60. I can manipulate the hop...

Thoughts on this IPA BIAB recipe? System only holds 13.5 lbs of grain.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think of dry hopping but I certainly can. I have some extra Willamette that I can use. I could add the Amarillo earlier to add bitterness if you thought it needed it. As far as the Victory. I like the biscuit flavor and was just looking for some extra complexity...

Thoughts on this IPA BIAB recipe? System only holds 13.5 lbs of grain.

I can only fit 13.5 lbs of grain in my kettle so working with that in a Brew in a Bag system with 65% efficiency I came up with the following for my first IPA. It's a little lower in alcohol and I'm not sure if the IBUs fit an IPA. It almost seems like a tweener between a pale and an IPA. I was...

How do you explain beer and your hobby to your children?

I have been home brewing for about a year and I have a 2 year old daughter at home who is learning fast. She is interested in helping daddy on brew day and knows the names of many of dad's brewing tools. My fiance rolls her eyes at me whenever our daughter says "beer" or anything related to...

Airlock activity at 7 hrs & nothing after 16 hrs. Please Help.

Thank you folks for the wisdom. About 4 hours after my initial post the airlock started bubbling. The temp is steady at 65. I appreciate all of you taking some time to give me your thoughts. Cheers!

Airlock activity at 7 hrs & nothing after 16 hrs. Please Help.

This is my first time using a dry yeast (Safale US-05). I pitched the dry yeast in to 70' wort and placed in a chest freezer set to 65'. At the 7 hour mark I saw two bubbles per minute with the wort holding at 65'. When I woke up in the morning there was no activity and temp control read...

Need help on my hefeweizen having a tart/sour after taste? Re-used yeast.

I just sampled this beer at 13 days and it made a world of difference. The sour/tart after taste is all but gone. I couldn't have hoped for a more significant change. I now have a tasty hef that I am excited to share with friends. Thank you to the gentleman who was kind enough to post his...

Need help on my hefeweizen having a tart/sour after taste? Re-used yeast.

This is my 3rd batch of beer with the first two coming out really good so I'm hoping to get some troubleshooting help on my 3rd batch, a hefeweizen, which I just sampled after 11 days of fermentation at 72' and 6 days in the bottle, and found a nice banana nose, good carbonation and first...

Summer Beer ideas for a 72' fermentation?

Great suggestions. Thank you. I sampled a Wit and a Saison because I have never had them before. I wasn't a big fan. I'm sure as I have more of them and come to know the style I will develop a greater appreciation, but I think for now, for my current tastes, I should focus more on possible...

Summer Beer ideas for a 72' fermentation?

I am a new brewer with two batches of extract & specialty grain under my belt. I brewed an Amber and a Brown. I would like to brew a tasty, lower alcohol session beer. I can only ferment in my dark closet around 72' so I was wondering if any of you folks have some ideas/recipes for me on a...

First Brew. Can I add hops and caramel taste to given Amber Ale ingredients?

So I sampled this beer after 5 days in the bottle at room temp and 2 days in the fridge and it was delicious! I did dry hop with an ounce of Cascade for the last 5 days of fermentation. I was nervous for my first brew, but really happy with the results. The caramel flavor was mild, maybe up...

First Brew. Can I add hops and caramel taste to given Amber Ale ingredients?

My starter kit should arrive any day now and it comes with an Amber Ale recipe. My favorite beers have a caramel/hoppy taste and I was wondering if I can add anything to the given ingredients to make the Amber have those flavors. I like Cascazilla, Hop Head Red, Denogginizer, Wilco Tango Foxtrot...
