    Schneider-Weisse Aventinus

If Aventinus was non-alcoholic, I'd still drink it for the taste. I love it that much. About a year ago I came into about 20 bottles of their Aventinus Eisbock. That stuff is amazing.

    New to kegging

Thank you for this link! I've purchased ball lock internals and kegs that should be arriving tomorrow so I can start kegging my homebrew from my existing kegerator. This is exactly the kind of info I've been trying to track down!

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Extract - Brass Castle Bad Kitty Vanilla Porter Clone

I just bought pure vanilla extract as I couldn't find a consistent amount of vodka soaked beans to use for a 5 gallon batch.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Extract - Brass Castle Bad Kitty Vanilla Porter Clone

Yeah, I didn't want to get into a partial mash situation with it so in my second and third revisions I've left it out. This above recipe, I've just had my first sample bottle and it tastes and feels how I remember the original beer being.

    DME vs LME.

Unfortunately Ottawa's a little far to drive for me to save on LME :D

    DME vs LME.

Another Ontario homebrewer here. The places I buy from tend to sell LME and DME for $14-15 which nets you a 3.3 lb can of LME or 3 lbs of DME. Where are you buying from?

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Extract - Brass Castle Bad Kitty Vanilla Porter Clone

For the history, see this thread: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=476646 Since I'm currently fermenting my third batch of it and everyone who's brewed it seems to like it, I figured I'd drop the recipe here. My latest revision of the recipe is as follows: Steeping Grains: .75...

First attempt, want to make a maple cream ale

For converting grains to extract: Multiply the grain bill by .75 to get an equivalent poundage of LME or by .6 for DME. You'll still want some specialty grains, likely. This chart shows which grains can be steeped to get their character into the brew and which need to be mashed...

Hefeweizen Recipe for a noob - HELP

Seconding this. I've used WLP300, same yeast, and made some great Hefes. Last couple of years though I've been doing WLP351 to great effect.

Need Crystal Malt for head retention w/ Extract?

I've never had a head retention problem yet, but I've very seldom made an extract only batch, most have had steeping grains so I wasn't sure what the deal would be for a batch without some steeping grains.

Need Crystal Malt for head retention w/ Extract?

I wasn't sure myself so I did some digging and this article: http://byo.com/hops/item/621-fabulous-foam seems to indicate that the head-retaining properties are lost during the processing of Malt Extract. Sounds like Carapils will work well for head retention, though Crystal is supposed to...

    Cherry chocolate stout help

Subscribed. I'm interested to hear how this works out.

    no steeping grains ?

For wheat beers, I exclusively use Wheat extract with no problems. However, I did a Maris Otter LME-only ESB that turned out a little "off". It was the first non-wheat beer that I'd done without steeping grains in a very long long time. Not sure if it was the MO extract or what but brews I...

Question on upping ABV, LME vs sugar etc.

I made a decent Tripel a couple of years ago, I've recently re-brewed it and it's just finishing fermentation up now: 2.5 Gallon boil, 5.5 Gallon batch 4 lbs Light DME 5 lbs Pilsner DME 2 lbs Light Candi Sugar 3 oz Styrian Goldings 90 min 2 oz Tettnanger 60 min 1 oz Fuggles 30 min 1...

    Finally bought a Kegerator

Bought a 6 cu ft Igloo kegerator this week. I'll convert the guts to Ball Lock eventually but I'm currently trying it out with a local beer (Waterloo IPA). So far everything works alright. I'm suspecting that in more recent models they've fixed the temperature settings. The first thing I...

    Harvesting yeast, expiration?

Last Monday I started an Aventinus clone brew. I harvested some WLP351 from my last Weissbier batch in August that I used for this batch. Washed the yeast and stored it in the fridge since then. I was worried about its viability but in a 2L starter the yeast woke up and reproduced like you...

Canadians, where are you ordering your stuff?

I used to buy from Canadian Home Brewing Supplies in Brampton, ON but when I moved away from the GTA and driving there was no longer an option I started using OBK. No regrets. Even with shipping the price is about the same and so far I've got all of my orders the next day.

    OBK extract kit question

'Sup, fellow OBK customer. Yep, brewing the kit the way you say should work fine. Beersmith's calculations are pretty good.

    smithwick's irish ale clone

That was like myself and Grolsh bottles. 500ml flip-top bottles cost $4 each here. 500ml Grolsh flip-top bottles at the beer store cost $4 each. Unfortunately I don't like Grolsh.

    "Tart" flavour is back :(

I shouldn't have worried. Tasted at my pre St. Patrick's Day party on the weekend, the tartness is almost completely gone leaving the creamy, caramely, red ale that I was trying to brew!
