    First time brewing in years

I’m brewing an extract Summer Ale this afternoon. During the boil the recipe calls for Paradise seeds and lemon peel to be add in Muslin bags at varying times of the boil. When cooling it says to remove hop bags. Do I remove the paradise seeds and lemon peel bags too at that time?

Need ideas... Beers for people who "don't like beer"

I find that talking to people about beer and brewing, there are many people who have limited their exposure to quality beer by "not liking beer" or "only liking Miller Lite." If someone told you that they would like to have their horizons expanded in the world of beer, but "only liked Miller...

    Original Gravity higher than expected

Brewed a White House Honey Ale extract kit from my LHBS. Targeted OG was 1.064 and I had an OG of 1.070 at a temp of approximately 58 F. Followed the directions, 5 gallon batch like the directions said... So WTF... I'm still new yet, so I'm always concerned when things don't come out how...

    Cool beer bars in Manhattan?

I'm sure there are a ton, but can anyone recommend a cool beer bar with some quality selections in NYC (Manhattan)? My girlfriend is whisking me to the city currently and I had no time to preplan!

    Does volume affect gravity?

So, I made a Munton's Nut Brown Ale extract kit. Based on the instructions on the kit, it's for a 6 gallon batch. It indicates a starting gravity of 1.040 to 1.044 and a final of less than 1.012. I brewed a 5 gallon batch based on my homebrew store's instructions and had a starting gravity of...

    Flat tasting first brew

So I bottled my first beer two weeks ago. Out of curiosity, my girlfriend and I opened a bottle last week. Nice head on it, tastes great but tasted flat. I said, well it's only been a week, let's give it another week and try again. Last night opened another one and again, nice head on it...

    Bottled first brew tonight...

What an awesome feeling! I'm still learning though, so I have questions... Used a Coopers Wheat Extract kit. OG (adjusted for temp) was 1.048 and alcohol was 6%. Almost 2 weeks in the primary and had a consistent FG of 1.021 and alcohol of almost 3%. I'm not good with the numbers, so does...

Airlock has no more bubbles after 2 days

I've seen this question asked before but couldn't find the thread. I put my Coopers Wheat in the fermenter on Saturday afternoon. Late Saturday night I had bubbles in the airlock and that continued (even quite vigorously) since then. Earlier today I noted no more bubbling. I know my temp was...

    First brew fermenting.... some questions

So I did my first brew this afternoon. It was easier than I expected, but I believe I made some errors along the way. Not sure if there are big errors, small errors or maybe not errors at all. I believe I added my wort to the fermenter when it was too warm. I aerated as I poured, had a...

    YouTube videos

As I'm preparing for my first brew day this weekend (Coopers Wheat), I've read a lot and talked to a few people I know who brew. Many recommended watching some of the YouTube videos that other brewers post. I never realized how many people post brewing videos on there. Any recommendations...

    New Guy from PA

Hello everyone! I'm Eric from Pennsylvania and am pretty new to homebrewing. I've done 3 batches of wine at a shop near me, but this will be my first brew and first time flying solo. Bought my equipment and a Cooper Extract kit (Wheat) on Monday and have been doing some reading on here to get...
