Portable RIMS project -ideas and help needed.

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead. Very interested in this project as it'll scale very nicely with my 1 gallon experiments to my 5/10 gallon production batches. Also, I've been thinking about using this idea as a Sous Vide temp controller system for cooking a large quantity of meat for a...

Thanks guys. Just to summarize: Join a brew club( already looking at local clubs, Looks like this is my closest club) Look into kegging( I live in an apartment so I'll have to find a nice compact way of doing this) buy a SS kettle Look into BIAB This should be fun, I have been more or...

    Where to go next?

Hey brew buddies, Been a while since I've posted on here. Have a question on where to go next? Equipment upgrades, brew clubs, or what? I find myself a little bored, and overwhelmed with 5 gallons of bottles after everything is said and done. Currently only have 2 5gal extract brews...

    What to brew challenge

Hey guys, Just found out that the local farm supply store has a megar selection of malts, hops, grains, and other equipment. So here's the challege, using as many of the local supplies as possible (I'm going to have to get yeast somewhere else at least), what beer can I brew? Ingredients...

    Arduino and two elements

I think I get it, however your using sledge hammer to nail in decking, while it'll get the job done, its the expensive and under-utilized way of doing things. Just so I have it clear, your using the ardino to set a temperature at which to turn a single relay off while keeping the second...

    Arduino and two elements

He's refering to D1 in your original diagram. It would appear that the relays you chose don't have that built in diode. that diode is very important as energy builds up in the coil and when you turn the coil off the energy has to go somewhere. Without the diode it would end up going into your...

    Arduino and two elements

N-channel fets are pretty straight forward, put voltage on the gate and current passes from drain to source with a little voltage drop across the device.

    Arduino and two elements

I would use mosfets instead of bjt's as the arduino pins are too fond of current being pulled through them.

    Stir plate power supply question

great suggestion! If it works great at that one speed then done and done. If not , then I would also possibly suggest a weaker pot, you could be throttling it way to much

    Heated stir plate

Hey all, First off, would it be helpful to have a gentle heater for your yeast starter? If so how many of you have considered using a peltier element for such functionality? I'm thinking about doing this when I build my stir plate and wondering if its even worth the effort.

    Stir plate power supply question

Your problem might not be the current but the voltage. Is that a computer case fan your using? then I would strongly suggest looking for a 12v supply as that's the voltage their used to receiving from the computer PSU.
