    First!

Junkie, I've been in the Railroaders for about a year and still feel like I am viewed as an outsider/newbie. Just the way it goes I guess. The benefits of being a member are actually pretty decent in my opinion. Emails are always flying around about equipment for sale, free admission...

New Homebrew Club: North of Omaha

Sounds great. That is Veteran's Day, so I won't be working that day. No work usually means a brew day. We'll see if I can make it out.

So...how did this new meeting go and when is the next one?

New LHBS in Elkhorn / West Omaha

I agree with Omahawk. I stopped in on Friday and the prices are very resonable. They offer locally grown hops from Ryhnalds in leaf form, in addition to a variety of commercially produced pellets. I also really like being able to purchase any increment of grain to match the recipe I have...

    2013 Hop garden photo thread

So I got out my tape to measure how long I was... Turns out my baby is doing pretty well for a first year rhizome in mid-June.

SE Nebraska Group Buy Round 2

Mine looks good. Tre, if you could send me the brewers' email addresses that are from Omaha, we can make pick up arrangements. That way we can communicate a place for people to drop off their "thank you" beers, as well as make the pick up once I've made the trip. Thanks again for doing all...

I'd be interested in a couple of kegs. My order looks great. Thanks Tre.

SE Nebraska Group Buy Round 2

Gotcha. I saw his signature says Omaha, so figured that was correct.

SE Nebraska Group Buy Round 2

Tre I'm confused... Are we talking about same thing? I was referring to the Omaha people getting together to make the pick-up from you in Lincoln, just like last time.

SE Nebraska Group Buy Round 2

Glad you're back in since it drives the cost down for all of us. Once this thing closes, we can figure out the details on who will make pick up.

SE Nebraska Group Buy Round 2

FWIW. A good number of the people taking part in this group buy are from omaha. No reason for us all to drive down separately. Last time I picked up Vinnie's grain and it worked pretty well for us both. We can make some arrangements for only one person to make the 45 min drive. Additionally...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

Similar thing happened to me while in Peru a few months ago. I ordered a Greene King IPA and the bartender gave me a puzzled look, thought for a second, and then said "Oh, you mean an "eepah"?" Shrugged my shoulders and said, "Yeah, give me one of those eepahs I've heard so much about."

I didn't get in on that one, but probably should have. I'll stay posted here for the next one.

1st AG recipe from scratch troubleshooting Black RyePA

I think I understand now. Since your equipment is not capable of handling more grain, you are boiling down your wort to make it more concentrated. Makes sense. Not necessarily more "efficient", but you yield a higher efficiency with the end result.

1st AG recipe from scratch troubleshooting Black RyePA

Usually the distributors of hops will provide a description and purpose of each hop, whether it is bittering, aroma, or dual-purpose. I've never seen a company describe the Cascade variety as bittering, or even dual purpose, always aroma/flavor. I typically use higher AA hops like Columbus for...

1st AG recipe from scratch troubleshooting Black RyePA

A few small things that came to mind: 1) I've never mashed for more than 60 minutes, and have read here that it isn't necessary to go longer. 2) Why do you want to boil for 90 minutes if you aren't adding hops until the 45 min mark? 3) I agree with Xpertskir that something other than...

    IIPA/CDA Recipe Input

Brewing a dreadnaught clone as I type. Throw some melanoidin in there. That provides the unique taste. My recipe calls for 18# 2 row and 1.5# melanoidin Your hop schedule looks great.
